Well I guess I should start searching for what companies I should look out for and which ones I should try everything to get into. Any tips for the Florida area?

Also, a side question. Since your OTR at least 2-3 weeks at a time, is it common for people to get a terminal that's 4+ hours away from where they live. I mean since you'll only be making the trip a couple times every few weeks?

if you want to drive outside of FL. you will find that you can't get an OTR company to touch you until you are 23

Woodys I would expect to be away from home for more like 4-6 weeks. Especially being in Florida. It doesn't really matter where the company terminals are located. Most companies have you take the truck home. With that being said you need to find a place to park. Keep in mind that if you go with a reefer company that when you come home you may have a load and have to keep the reefer running. It can be very loud, especially in a residential area.

Cool, that's what I thought, just wasn't sure.

About the parking ... if you live in an apartment complex, they can't refuse you to park your truck there can they?

Yea, I've heard most places outside Florida don't hire until 23-25. I plan on staying in Florida IF I can find employment there. Which I'm sure if I look hard enough I can grab something.

Actually they can refuse you. You will probably have to get special permission. Depending on how big the complex is you may want to size it up to see if you can get a tractor trailer in there. Don't forget about the height also. 13'6". Like I said too, if you work for a reefer company such as Central REf. sometimes you are sent home with a load and have to keep the reefer running. It is very loud and I highly doubt your apartment complex will allow something to that effect. There are a lot of places you can pay to park. Keep your eyes open and if you see something ask if it would be possible to park a big rig there. Most companies are going to want an address of where you are keeping the truck while on hometime. This is why its good to figure out ahead of time. When my wife and I were on the road we had an apartment and could not park the truck there when we were home. We had to pay to park in a truck parking lot. It was $80 a month whether we were there or not. It was worth it though. We actually had to be on a waiting list for 3 months so there was no way we were giving it up.

You are young.. RUN as fast as you can from trucking... It is a horrible way of life.. You work then sleep where you work.. and get up and go right back to work. Your days off are spent away from home. Your family (when you have one) will never see you. The money looks good on paper but how much did you spend on the road.. These companies treat you like you are a piece of crap. When you finally do get home you wind up sleeping for the first 10 hours you are home. On day 2 dispatch is calling you bugging you asking when can you run..

Which they know the answer to because they are telling you in a nice way get ready to go.. In the end you will be alone with no money back problems fat/out of shape, due to your eating habits. Just run..
