Back last year i enterd the werner training program right out of cdl school. I had the misfortune of being stuck with one hell of an ahole for a trainer. First day on the truck he got in the sleeper and I drove from Atlanta to Indianapolis. Talk about a baptism of fire. Needless to say I spent about 5 weeks on the truck with him and the first chance I got I jumped ship. I swore I would never step back foot in a truck again. It took me over a year but I finally got a driving position at a local company driving local routes and such. Ive been thinking about trying the otr thing again but I fear the training process drastically. Does anyone have any good advice for me to maybe ease my fears a little. I think it will be easier this time since I have some driving experience now and what not.

Try going into it with a positive attitude. It's only 4-6 weeks, anyone can last through that! After that you get your very own truck and can do whatever the hell you want too! You are still a newbie and are going to learn a lot from a good trainer. If for any reason you are not getting along with your trainer or you feel you are not being trained properly then call dispatch and let them know about it. It's not uncommon for a student to switch trainers. These companies realize some people just don't mesh together and being stuck in a truck for a month can really ride on you. You do need to learn to bite your tongue though. You have to realize it is their home and they are the instructor so you must do what they tell you. Within reason of course and safely. I some how have the feeling that the "lifestyle shock" may have been a big part in you quitting. The lifestyle shock is going to last a lot longer then your training period. Usually takes a good three months of over the road before you are comfortable with your everyday to do's, such as driving, sleeping, directions etc... Pretty much just feeling comfortable out there. Don't worry you are not alone. This is the biggest reason for newbies quitting early on. Anyway welcome to the forum and good luck to you.

I curious why he made a second post...about his trainer 1 year ago at Werner...and said nothing about it being 1 year ago.
As I understand it, Werner gives a $1000 bonus if you do all 6 weeks with one trainer...or at 4 weeks, gives you a paid week off, then starts you with a new trainer to complete you training...i know it not quite like I described it, but they do have an option to switch trainers...quicker if you talk to the right person!!
It sounds like the trainer trusted you...maybe too much, but I'm sure he could feel how you drove in the back...might have been keeping an eye on you!!
