Make sure you avoid marten transport, mondovi wi.....they will ruin your dac and career as a driver.......also you wont make money
shmitty1023 Thanks this. -
Look # the LTL carriers, YRC, ABF, Conway to name a few. While you probably won't see America from the seat of a truck you will have the highest paying job in the industry, the best benefits in the industry, and a retirement pension that 90% of the industry couldn't even attain with their own money. Look for an entry level position as a dock worker and go from there.

Maverick is a good, company to work for I have been there three-years. They have always treated me fine. They have good starting pay.

Does Maverick hire as far north as Chicago? I thought they only hire in the southern states.
The company I work for, MCT, has a couple fleet owners in northern Illinois. Good laid back company for new drivers like myself. Unforced dispatch, lots of long hauls to california, florida, Upstate New York. I havn't really gone into any really bad Urban areas. I've been to Ontairo California a LOT but that's easy as pie to get in and out of. Plus the receiver is less then 1 mile from the Ontario TA. Easy Peasy. Get unloaded, drive to the TA. The worst city I've driven through is Miami. I got into the city around 11:00am local time. After rush hour, before the noon lunch rush... But my Lord... the traffic!!! The good thing is that it kept moving, tons of cars, but it never really backed up. Then I got to the receiver and had to sit for 8 hours because they didn't have room in the warehouse for my load... wasn't thrilled about that... But I'm digressing. The pay is ok for newbie driver, my fleet owner started me out at $.25 and bumped me up to .27 after 3 months. I think I'll get another cent soon since my 6 is up, and I'll get another bump after my year. From there it slows down, but .30-.31/cpm isn't terrible with 1 year exp. But the best part, like I said, is they're really laid back. No company trucks though, everything is O&O or fleet run. My owner has around 30 trucks, and they're all pretty old. I'm in an '01 columbia. It's ok, but I'd like a few basic features... Like tilt, and power passenger window...shmitty1023 Thanks this. -
Go to the Chicago Bulk Mail Center or Main Post Office, there are a lot of mail haulers who need drivers in that area, its a good job with good pay($25 hr) and it is 100% no touch, but the hours are long

Companies are listed by state at "fleetdirectory.com"---many have links to websites with hiring area diagrams, service area diagrams, etc. Local and regional listings can be found in the 'Transport' column of Craigslist, but these listings generally call for experienced drivers. Good luck to ya!!!

I used to haul for a company called WePleez. They hauled blow ups dolls. They are based out of Chicago. Very light loads and you got to keep one blow up doll per run. I had a huge collection, all races and sizes. Great job. I once got hi-jacked by a plastics fetish doll rehab group and had to quit because of the danger.
