This isn't his worst experience he did work for WILDWOOD. At my urging we got out just in time. I also found out that they tried to steal his 401k. We had that investigated by Labor Relations Board and got that back just before they were locked down! Then He went to Sharkey Trans. and was injured. One great job after another. He is investigating a company that does step deck in Iowa right now. He has done flat bed, dry van, refer, and some farm hauling. We should be able to find something with time Thanks for listening and your support. I just wanted to warn other drivers about our experiencce and this seemed like the best way to go! I wish I could tell them off like I did when he tried driving for Fortune Express!

Your very knowledgable....sharkey? Lol....joke.......stay with small companies whose freight come from where they are located.......another words.........their customers are based right where their terminal is located..........seems to be the way to go......i did marten........made money and then they pulled the plug....i put my wife thru so much agony....but i did make the right choices....60 percnt of the time....i had to bounce around.........i made mistakes......but i made good cash with the decisions i made......marten....good god....marten has sent drivers back in a body bag...and has destroyed marriages uneccessarily...trust me mam...trucking is a lot better than marten......there are companies out there....whose owners are closer to the driver....and not the bottom line.....they know better.....

We have had our good years, until the company went thru changes. He hauled for Crete when General Mills was a "dedicated' run. $1,000 quarterly bonuses and great mileage pay. Then they cut the mileage pay and the bonuses were cut in half. The local terminal fell apart, and he said enough is enough. I have ssupported him all the way. After 22 years of marriage in January and raising our kids alone, i don't think anything could pull us apart. We have seen good and bad, and just keep on rolling down the road. I don't worry. It just hurts to hear him so depressed and stressed and angry all the time. We will get through it. we always do! Stay safe! and thanks for the support, advice and letting me vent a little.

Here's he deal. If you've go any real exp. under your belt, stay away from the bigger companies. There are plenty of mid-sized and smaller carriers waiting to take a good, safe professional driver. The pay won't be as much, but the way to look a it is, You'll run more miles, less sitting ad get real respect from people who know who you are. Higher CPM (cents per mile) doesn't mean anything if you aren't driving. A smaller outfit will work with you, and if you are a good driver, fight to keep you. There is nothing wong with Marten, just like Swift and Werner and so on. But, keep in mind that they have thousands of trucks and drivers, it's nothing to get lost in the shuffle, and you lose in the end. Not to mention office staff are dealing with LOTS of people every day. And you, unfortunately, are just another driver. I've worked for one big carrier, and I learned from that, and I'll never do it again. You might be willing to go the extra mile, do them a favor, and then they'll forget you. A decent smaller carrier, they'll remember and scratch your back as well. Pohl, Lessors, Millis, are just a few of the smaller carriers that I've dealt with (still with Lessors, gonna retire here!) that have show to be driver friendly. Best of luck!
mommadonna Thanks this. -
this has gone far enough.....i sit here....remembering the hardships...when trucking used to pay off..........im sick and tired of drivers getting put thru the meatgrinder...and that meat grinder's name is Marten Transport Inc...........i remember the days when u had to shave and wet your hair to look good before the colorado point of entry......back then you could run hard and make money....now it's paperless logs and family hardships.......good grief.......and big company ignorance on top of it all...........as of 2007 you could make some real big money...now we at the truckers report are getting the stone cold facts............happens to be at a company called ...Marten Transport......instead of looking forward....we have to sit and not make money...and be at the sole mercy of company ignorance.....meanwhile families become broken...due to people....like Marten....ill tell you something...you need to listen to reason...to drivers who made money and know the industry....and lived it....and hustled.......legal or not...........newbies and company cheerleaders.....make me vomit......i tell the truth.......i will not be underminded by ignorance...especially from drivers who havnt gone as far as i have......and i will not let new drivers.....get trapped by bad information and big company ignorance....thats right...im ezpickins624...i drove for 8 years...and im out here saying...........you cowards.......

one quick thought after a few hours to clear my thoughts. When does anyone elsse take responsibility for loads not being ready on time? Why is EVERYTHING on the driver? If it is not ready on time it is his fault. If it gets damaged due to improper loading, it is his fault. If he has to sit and wait to get unloaded it is his fault when he can not get to the next pick up on time. When do the shippers, dispatchers, or even the government (who have made the most rediculous demands on you drivers) get to share in the blame? drvrtech77 if you are a driver you should know better than to say he should know what his hours are! Any truly professional driver knows where his hours stand each and every hour. Shame on you for making that comment.

If a company wants a load delivered on time, and they supply directions, why shouldn't the driver expect them to be correct? Yes, the driver should verify them, but he should be able to expect proper information like phone numbers and addresses. I myself have had to help my husband get the proper information including phone numbers and addresses along with directions because the information he was given was totally incorrect. Local police departments can be a wonderful source of info if you can get ahold of them. But if you are given the wrong city (which he has) then what do you do? You need to step back and think before you criticize. We have been in this industry for a few more years. It is not laziness or incompetence on the drivers end, but on the dispatcher and safety end! To tell a driver we have directions to get there, here they are, you have 300 miles to go through construction, accident scenes, rush hour traffic, keep the load safe, stay legal, babysit the idiots on the road around you, oh yes and by the way it has to be there in 4 hours with a 67 mph truck, get it there on time or they will not accept the load. Shouldn't the driver expect a little cooperation from his employer at the very least?
