Thankfully all of the accidents we have been to the last two weeks have been good. Entrapments, but no fatalities.
One on Christmas eve, 20 mph reponse with lit up and siren on icy roads. Got to the scene and the truck would not stop. Had to put in neutral to set the air brakes.
The bad accidents always stay with you.

I have 9 active LEO's in my family and some of the pics and stories from
my life sentence behind the wheel has often made many of them cringe.
Death is but a joke to many, but hardly a man will ever bear true witness and not be affected.
After 30+ years of breaking laws and burning asphalt, the older the incident
the harder it is to forget.
She would be 30 or so now,but when I last saw her she was all of 2
Laying on the hood of the car,holding tightly to her crayon . . . . . .

tinytim, rocknroll nik, dieselbear and 1 other person Thank this. -
Safety departments do (or will be) tracking gps speeds and flag drivers that speed...computer software does the job 24/7...this will be standard industrywide sooner than later...

If you are running legal, does it matter all that much?
If you aren't, tough for you. -
Funniest call I heard in a long while was a guy coming into Enterprise, NT. I don't know where his head was, but he shouted out wanting to know if the scale was open on Ladd 1. Every trucker in the NorthWest Territories knows that the scale operators use Ladd 1, and for about 30 seconds there was absolute silence. Then the scale operator took pity and said "just check the lights as you come into town. If they're flashing, we're open."
Flying Finn Thanks this. -
The whole purpose of a bear report was for that driver speeding. Today with many governed trucks they aren't included in the game anymore. So why play? Times are changing. Why listen to all the idiots out there? Why are them people even allowed behind the wheel? You don't see any DOT concerns there. Those people aren't mentally stable to be driving an 18 wheeler.
I give bear reports out of shear boredom to them curious minds. Very few appreciate it anymore. Another reason not to give one. I'll give reports and nobody replies, I just stop giving them. I might have the satellite radio on, but the CB radio is on too. Mainly to hear about backups and wrecks.
The same with weigh stations. The reason behind many asking is stupid?
Are you going around? No. You just want to know if they are open. Just read the sign and you'll find out. It gets old when someone gets an answer, then five miles down the road they are asking again.
You always hear your parents and older people say "this is the way it use to be". Now that many of us are older, we are saying the same things.
The truth, the times constantly change. Learn to adapt. You can't force people to go back to the old ways. -
What about when the speed limit is 55?

The term steering wheel holder puzzles me. Tell me what do you hold to maintain control of your vehicle
And if seeing a "bear" bother you that much perhaps quit engaging in activities that would raise his ire
My job description includes on time delivery, accurate record keeping, modicum of customer service..........
Sorry your fear of a bear didn't make the cut

Ditto. Snowplows and slow movers too when the snow is flying. Even in the short time I've been doing this it seems there are less that will warn you but still enough that there aren't too many surprises.

I know what you mean TT. Northern Ontario can be a bear (no pun intended, well, OK, maybe a little) given only really two major routes across. Knowing what is ahead over that hill, around that curve, or both in many cases is very nice.
