Let me correct a statement from an earlier post concerning e logs. I commented that I have lost on average 300 miles a day since on e logs. I meant to say about 30 miles a day. In the past I averaged 682 miles a day on paper, and now on e logs, my best day thus far has been 654 miles. 30 miles a day over a six day period is 180 miles a week at .35 cpm is $63 a week at 52weeks = $3276 out of my pocket at the end of the year. This figure is on the low end, not taking in to account the days of being stuck in traffic because of wrecks and road construction etc. and the e log just ticking away with no way to recover that lost time.
You gotta love the future of trucking, but yet im being told it will increase productivity. I beg to differ. -
Well I went in Monday night to the yard in Sc. and took a load to Cairo, Ga. I reloaded right there coming back to the yard in Sc.. I got back to the yard Tuesday night took my break, I went in to the terminal on Wed. morning and dispatch said it didn't look good the rest of the week. So I have a few unexpected days at home, hopefully I can get a load out of the house Sunday. I always hate this time of the year because freight seems to slow down until after the first of the year, at least X/mas and New Years day fall on Saturdays this year. This week will suck, but I'm optimistic I can get back on track next week.
The weatherman says we will be having a white Christmas down here in the Carolinas this year. There calling from 4 to 8 inches starting late Christmas day and most of the day Sunday. The wife and kids had planned to leave Sunday morning for Va. Beach to see the grandkids, but I don't want her on the roads on Sunday. She grew up in upstate Ny, but these fools down South don't have a clue how to drive in any amount of accumulated snow, plus these states down here don't have the capabilities to deal with that much snow. It should be interesting. I'm sure today there will be a mad rush on milk and bread at all the stores.....I have never quite understood this phenomenon, what do these people plan on surviving on french toast or something.
In closing I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas with the ones you love, and those that want to be home are able to get home. Be safe.canuck in da truck and ampm wayne Thank this. -
Well after an extended stay at home its back to the grind tomorrow. We are getting hit pretty hard here with snow, so tomorrow should be interesting just trying to make it to the terminal tomorrow to leave. Down here in North and South Carolina they just don't have the capabilities to deal with any significant amount of snow.
When I make it to the yard tomorrow I have to pick up a preloaded trailer going to Indiana for a Monday delivery. I think if I can make it on the other side of Lexington, Ky. tomorrow I should be in good shape as far as the roads are concerned. At least I don't have to head farther up the I95 corridor tomorrow.
I hope everyone had a great day with family and the ones you love, be safe and have a productive week. -
I left out Sunday with a load going to Indiana, ran in snow all the way from Sc. to Indiana. The Gorge on I40 in Nc. hadn't been touched, so that was pretty slow going. I ended the week with 3014 paid miles for the week, and this was really a decent week considering it was the week between Christmas and the first of the year.
I'm still not used to the using these e logs, but I am pretty satisfied with the miles for the week. I pulled into one customer with 1 minute left on my 14. Pretty stressful to say the least. I told the shipper I was on e logs, and out of hours. He proceeded to say I couldn't stay there, even though there was plenty of room where I could park out of the way. So I had to head 3 miles down the road to a rest area. Here is my issue one of many issues with e logs....shippers and receivers should be willing to work with us when there is room to park and won't affect there operations in any way. In 11 years of driving, I have always prided myself in never being late for a delivery unless I was broken down on the side of the road or road conditions where impassable. Twice this week I was late for appts., because e logs offered no flexibility. I guess only time will tell how this will work out.
I got home today about 1330, and will have a nice long weekend. I won't head back out until some time Monday. I hope everyone is smart tonight if you are going out tonight.... Johnny Law will be out in force, and 1 night can ruin a career forever.local driver Thanks this. -
FWIW, I've been told by a couple outfits I was looking at with e-logs that a person in safety or whatever can adjust things on the e-logs. Like for instance there when you were burning up your last minutes. Worth a conversation with the powers that be at your terminal. Enjoy your post.

I thought I would post some numbers for the four months I have been with Cheeseman to finish out 2010.
Paid miles
September------15,938
October---------10,843
November------11,565
December------14,185
Gross income for these 4 months--$19,965
If I could average the same numbers through out a full year the estimate for the year would be $59,895. Not to shabby with a company that gets me home just about every weekend (for the 4 months I have been with them I have worked 3 weekends). We just implemented e logs, and I realize these numbers will be affected somewhat, but only time will tell by how much. -
Hey Runningman,
I used to work for a company here in Penna. that had went to e-logs back in 1999 using the cadac system. Yes they are a pain in the a%% but they can save your butt in ways too. Most of time when ever one of our trucks got stopped by DOT and wanted to check our logs when they found out we used e-logs they would say ok just take off. They didn't want to climb up in the cab to see them. Now the company I worked fro was a local food chain and we only ran day cabs but we could still run 2 loads a day with an average of 400 miles a day. You'll get used to them in time. In fact I'm starting with a new company next week that doesn't have e-logs and told the safety guy your going to have to re-train me on paper logs as I've been doing the e-logs so long I kind of forgot how to do a paper log...LOL -
The Challenger Thanks this.
