I know you can...
It just amazes me that they did it that way...Because everybody knows that the way to fix an air tank is to wrap it with about 500 feet of duct tape!
You know...Till the whole thing's about 2 feet in diameter and weighs about 50 pounds!
I learned that from Wisconson Kenworth....
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
they're doin it wrong!!!! duck tape and bailin wire is the way to go

if you have to get r dun just take the blown tank off the truck and seal off the line jsut take her easy greasy had a tank pop on me years ago on a swift freightshaker at a job sight out in the middle of bfe i just took a set of lock jaw needle nose pliars and pinched the line going to that tank.. got me back to the freight shaker dealer to get a new one put on
and they wonder why i left haaa we dont need exp we want cheap freight truck drivers that
that tank was goin to cost them a 1200 dollar service call on top of the price of the tank..... -
Ha ha! you are not the first who try to fix air tank! never do it. fortunatly u got tank blowing not on road at 70 MPH, Dumping air at so high speed cauzez appling of park brakes and you may get into deadly jack-knife accident with rolling over, jumping to oncoming lane and... no, I do not wanna think about this.

apparently they tried this once before and it worked, hence they thought they would try it again. oh well, I may end up in a day cab heading to/from Idaho, which means I get a hotel room. 22 friggin' hrs rnd trip in a day cab, without my Sat. radio, god I hope the weather is good.

People can't be that stupid, can they? JB Weld an air tank..... You got to be joking.
-
In B.C. they have a rat line to report these kind of abuses to the inspectors. you should have the number in your area. It is your life you are risking. It is illegal to do any repairs on an air tank. they are lined to stop corrosion and welding will damage the coating and they will fail later. It is also illegal to remove one tank. they are designed so you have enough air for multiple applications.
The B.C. rat line number is # 1-888-775-8785.
If you report a safety issue to the company and write it in your log and they blow it off when you stop at a scale and there is a DOT or MOT inspector STOP, and ask his opinion -
I think a lot of repair shops will tell you they DO NOT WELD AIR TANKS..
Like the other poster stated they are lined inside with a coating to prevent rusting.
When a weld fails on an air tank, the tank is old and the metal is getting weak.
Just buy a new tank.
Lucky you did'nt get a new back side... -
Well, they used the "krazy"part.
