I guess I screwed up getting this ole cabover... I love these ugly ole things though. I wanted to get a pete or a K100 but all the ones I looked at were all ragged out.. This one was in great shape with a top end done 200,000 ago.
To Pete or not to Pete,,that is the question.

You didn't screw up in my opinion. Personally I like to old cabovers with big bunks on them. If I remember correctly you stated you Paid $4500.00 for it. You didn't screw up! Keep the truck up and well maintained and you will get you $ back in trade or selling outright if you decide to. That truck will make you $ when everyone else will be crying in their beer. Been there-done that. Don't doubt your decision, just keep trying. Best Wishes.stiffride Thanks this.

If she runs well, makes you money, and YOU like it, you made a great decision.
I've never bought a truck just because somebody told me it was the truck to have. I could care less what anyone else thinks about the truck I drive. It's what I like, and that's what matters to me.

Having spent a gloriously unfortunate number of years running the East Coast, there were many times I'dve given various parts of m personal anatomy for a good cabover. Best kind of truck to run, especially in the NorthEast.

I am. That's why I would only cross the Delaware-Maryland Memorial bridge after dark. Then I couldn't see how high I was. (Seriously).

LOL thanks folks I am very proud of my ride, and looked for months just to find one that was in as good a shape this one is in. And your memory was correct she was only $4500. It was well worth the money the only thing I had to do to it was and alternator, new muffler, and air dryer. Other than those things she was easily DOT certifiable...

My exhd Pete gets between 5.5 to 6.3 mpg running the northeast pulling a flat and rgn at gross 80% of the time, flat top with a 280wb and 550 Cat, i will not comprimise comfort and ride for a little better fuel mileage. A friend of mine runs for a company with columbias and 9400's running the north east and there only getting 4.8 to 5.5 mpg and there all flleet speced trucks and nutered. Its not the truck its the guy behinded the wheel, plus i'am a true believer of outside air cleaners and unrestricted exhuast plus big hp will give best mpg if drived right and sometime no matter how its driven they do better.

I thank you all for your input...
I have always liked the Pete's, since I was a boy. My father drove Internationals and those seem to be the workhorses back then but, the Pete's were the Cadillacs and still are in my opinion. I feel the Internationals of today,,are just down right ugly and no matter what anyone says, if you don't like what you drive, you just arne't going to treat it the same. I believe in numbers, and numbers don't lie. There are alot of Pete 379's out there on the highway and that many people can not be wrong. Fuel mileage is very important when your an O/O but dependability, ease of maint and cost of parts are also very important. I am looking to buy a 2002 379 with a detroit engine, 13 or 18 speed trans, and the biggest sleeper they come with. My wife will be in there as well... Now this is just an idea for now but this thread is helping me make my decision. I can get a descent one for 20 to 30,000 pretty easy.
Keep the info coming and thanks again....
