    You set your tandems for the state with the most strict laws right away and if you are overweight then take it back to the shipper and have them reload it.

    ok using above formula 7.3 - .05% = 7.29335lb/Gal x 228 gal (2 120 gal tanks w 95% capacity) = 1662.8838lbs of fuel for full tanks

    using standard 8 lbs per gal x 228 = 1824

    for a diffrence of 161.1162 total

    a addition of 22.09 gsllons

    with a average 6 mpg thats a added 132.54 miles

    So yea I gues it does matter.

    BRILLIANT DWAYNE!!! I can't believe (of all the things I've tried strapping my handle to) I NEVER once thought about using another trailer. Great tip. Would love to see more ideas of yours.

    I love all the tips I've seen here. I'm a very tiny framed driver and when I first went solo, I had to teach myself how to slide them suckers on my own. I didn't know any of the tricks, or what tools to make it easier. And suffered one too many head bumps, arm bangs, hand pinches, and falls on my rear. I wish I would have had access to this site then.

    I also have a few other questions that I didn't see addressed here:

    Do you have any tips for sliding on mud/loose gravel? (if chocks, what kind/brand work the best in loose ground?)

    Also for siting your distance at night? (do any of you use a flash light or a laser light on point?)

    I have a few questions for stubborn trailer doors too but I think they deserve their own thread.

    Probably a good half hour or so wrestling with the tandems for a variety of reasons. Either the notch was worn so when I pulled the lever out it had nothing to catch on to stay retracted...or the rails were rusty and had trouble moving it backwards or forwards.

    Even when I got a trailer that had the button you push in, some times I still had to get under there with a mallet and bang on the pins to get them to retract.

    It took me awhile to figure out the vice grips trick. Once at AB in Williamsburg I hooked a load strap around the lever and hooked the other side to the trailer next to it. Ratcheted it a few times to get the lever to stay out and slid the tandems that way. I felt like McGuyver. :biggrin_25523:
