I'm new here so bear with me.
Last time I had a CB was when I lived in my School bus converted camper home 1978 & 1979 for two years.
I just got a used Cobra 29 WX NW ST 40- CHANNEL it was suppose to
    be a display unit.
I wired it up, good ground, attached a magnetic ant.
NOTE ( no mic yet ).
The meter light comes on the power/ volume writing lights up,
no other lights come on except ST AND WX LED.
All other night watch lights for the writing do not light up.
I switched to the WX station, switch from 1-7
there is no movement of the meter, no sound,
and no indication of the channel in LED CHANNEL DISPLAY and no
    light there either.
So this may be a DUMB question and I can't see it myself,
But having no MIC connected would this effect the whole unit.
    Thank you any help appreciated.
Where can a guy get a wiring diagram for this unit???

Some radios do not receive if no mic is connected. I used to own that radio years ago but don't remember if that is one. But yes not uncommon...have seen it before.

Most cb radios have to have the mike connected to the radio to complete the circuit in order to receive, dont know why they do it like this. The only radios you dont have to worry about this is export radios such a Galaxy,Connex and RCI.

Question is why does just the volume night light and meter light light up and none of the other night watch lights and the channel light.
I know you need the mic to receive and send but shouldn't all the lights come on if one comes on. ?

there's a few people out there that should opt for the "no mic" option :)

    Hello all
The first Cobra NW WX ST I posted about was fried I did get a mic and tried it.
The only thing I could tell that worked was the SWR meter when I pushed the mic to speak.
    Sorry for the mis lead.
I'm no talking about another CB same model and everything with a mic, antenna etc,
Every thing works, I can receive weather.
    BUT
Want to know if there should be a number light up in the channel.
I get weather here on Channel 1 but the channel light LEDS DO NOT SHOW IT ????
    HELP
