I stopped at the cat house today with engine running rich and smoking up the pipes, sounding like it was floodering when i changed gears and going through cities at low speed.. They told me the fins on the exaust side were missing the the little flap, that the exaust wasnt getting it out like it should ausing it to do like i mentioned before. They think that a piece of the manifold might have got hott and broke off..$2700 to fix it. Was just wanting to hear some comments on this, and back up there finds Thanks..

If the fins are damaged on either side it's junk. Unless you can get it to a good turbo shop they can replace either side.(exhaust or intake wheel) around a thousand + R&R. Look for a Borg Warner, If you look hard, around $1600. + R&R. NO CORE CHARGE and your old one is worth several hundred. Also a good turbo shop may have a center section, I would guess 900 to 1400? I don't know.
You MUST find out why this happened. or you are wasting your money.

Thought of one more thing, If they can have you back on the road tomorow, $ 2700 with a guarantee ain't that bad!!

I would like to hear more about this. The reason doesn't sound very clear.

If it's a c15, sounds like an exhaust sleeve may have failed, that would damage the exhaust wheel. Is the engine out ouf warranty? Exhaust sleeves are covered under ESC.

I had this same problem on an MBN C15. Cat has bad exhaust sleeves that crumble apart and the chunks go through the turbo taking out pieces of the fins. I can't remember if they replaced my sleeves for free or not, but I know I had to eat the turbo cost.

Ask them if Cat will at least replace all the sleeves for free, otherwise they will continue to send chunks through your new turbo. Either way you have to fix the sleeves when you put the new turbo on.

When you post these things it is better that you tell us the model of the engine. Damage to the turbine can be from a piston coming apart, it could be an exhaust sleeve, or manifold pieces.
