    Hey Jim,
Drop by and say hi. I'm in the front row in the orientation classroom right by the door. That is if you make it to Omaha this week.

Took the road test today. Not to bad, hook to trailer, pre-trip inspection, then out of the yard in the 780 Volvo, around the block down I-80 one exit and back to the terminal. All-in all about a 30 minute test. Passed it and came back to the hotel with three others in the class.

The Firewater Grille had a special tonight. 6 oz. sirloin with two sides, $8. Very tasty. The hotel has just been renovated ($8.5 million) says the general manager. So it's very nice.

I guess that's all for now. Good luck to ya now.

    John

Glad to hear everything is going well... the facilities are basic but are enough to get the job done.

I told my dispatcher I could use a trip through Omaha this week so naturally I got sent to Grand Island, NE then south to Dallas, TX. Apparently, I'm the go-to driver to take a FedEx load up to Henderson, CO early tomorrow morning so if I get through there it will be Friday sometime.

Remember, it is your duty to jump up and yell "I KNOW THAT DRIVER!" in your best pre-teen girlie voice when Abbie and Vickie come in to do the presentation on the lease program :)

Try the Coconut Chicken Salad (even if you don't like greens!). It is over the top. So are the onion rings (not greasy, and they come with a really great dipping sauce).

Next time I'm through Omaha I will try the Cocnut Chicken Salad.

We got our trucks today. I got a 387 Peterbilt with appx 300,000 miles. It has a fridge but no APU and no Inverter. But I'm utility out of KC to Des Moines running Pepsi full pop bottles up to ??? maybe Urbandale, IA then pickin up empty pop bottles in Ames and bringin em back to KC and then heavy pop pop bottles back up and spend the night in Des Moines. Then the next day I do the same run in reverse landin me back at the house. Not a bad gig if I can get the miles in and there ready with everthing on either end. Both ends are supposed to be drop and hook.

So the APU is not a big deal. Maybe on the next truck. It's got a bunk heater and I will idle in the summer. I'll rig my own inverter if the shop will let me. So all is good.

Thanks again and I know you will get the referral. They were more than happy to put you in for it. You are probably one of the best recruiters they have.

We had a bunch of good people in my class so we got done early. We will load tomorrow and head out. I'll going back to KC with some kind of freight and get ready to run next week. I'll speak with Andrew in KC about next week and just start rollin. Sounds like a good gig.

I see what you were saying about the insurance. I will likley stay on my wife's policy at her job so not a big deal. My son and I will likely use the dental, vision and life because that is pretty good and can save us on my wife's benefits. I don't know yet we havn't discussed it at home yet.

That's all for now, thanks for everything,

    Be Safe out There

Wow, in your own bed every other day? I didn't know they had those kind of positions for OTR-type stuff (KC to DM area then back).

Kind of surprised your pete doesn't have an APU but does have a fridge... must run down the batteries something fierce if it is anything like mine. But hey, its a company truck so its their idle time.

I think the shop will install an inverter if you bring them one... I had a 2,500 watt put in when they installed the APU instead of the 1,800 that came with it.

Keep an eye out for my car in KC... red Sonata parked near the office!

    Cheers,

    Jim

They call it utillity but it sounds like the miles add up just the same. Got back Friday night about 8. Dropped the Corn Flakes (Kellogs) and parked against the north fence and plugged in. Dead head to DM then pick up empty bottles and bring em back I guess. I don't really know. That's what Andrew said. I'll keep an eye out for your car. Mines a brown 98 camry. I'll let you know how it pans out.

The lady came in and talked about LP on Friday and I spoke up with my best high pitched girlie voice and said "I KNOW THAT GUY". Needless to say she was impressed. She asked if I put you in for the referral and of course I said yes. I got the info on the LP and I'm looking it over.

Like you said, you really have to be the right sort of person to make it work. Sounds like your that guy. It doesn't sound that much more involved than we already are as a company drive. If I could make work on the dedicated thing, it might be sweat.

    See ya soon,

    Thanks again,
    John

JR, this is a great thread. Do you guys run through Tulsa on I-44 much, or is this a bad place to live and work for HB?

Not as much as I like, as I live off of I-44 in Springfield, Missouri! In terms of cargo though, we do send quite a few loads of pet food from Tulsa down to Phoenix.

You might want to chat up Erin in recruiting as she may have a better picture of traffic.

    Good luck,

    Jim

That sounds outside our usual running area, though I know of a couple drivers who live in PA and NY. Talk with the recruiting folks for the definitive answer.
