I'm driving a 24' non CDL truck interstate and the tabs/registration expired last week. I will be driving across weigh scales and my weight is fine. My question is will the DOT shut me down for not having current registration or will they only ticket me?

Your going to find out soon.

I would imagine the fine for expired tags/registration would be pretty hefty as well as counting against your license?
-
thanks that was about as useful as a can of fix-a-flat on a fishing boat
-
to heavy dude that is
-
Most states have a 30 day grace period so for example if your tags expired on 12/31/10 they won't write you a ticket until Feb 1
-
You don't carry fix-a-flat on your boat? Oh I forgot you don't plan things out well, hence the expired tags.
-
Fix a flat on a fishing boat, and your original question are just about on an equal intelligence par.
OF COURSE YOURE GOING TO GET IN TROUBLE. DUH........... Big red truck
Honestly, what other answer were you expecting? -
No problem. We understand that you have not had the chance to get the tags updated. Just leave the check here and we will do it for you. After all, we know it is difficult to think of everything when you are on the road and we are here to help.
