I have a question for Mr.Haney. I have a 435 hp 5ek.i had a 475/500 rerate done on the ecm without changing the hard parts. The hp is set at 475 now and it runs real strong. My question is how much hp can the 435 iron handle? I was told not to try much more because of the pistons .truth is i dont know what iron i have the engine is a 95 and been oh'ed at least once before i got it. Any advice?

The 435 and higher horsepower engines use the same pistons & rods as a 550. The problem is you don't have the good camshaft and injectors of the 550 5EK. I've flashed 435's up to the 550 program with no problems they just don't build quite as much power as they should with the good parts in them.

Thanks, I will talk to the tech that set my ecm up for me and try the 550 hp and see what it does. Maybe you can help me with a file if he cant?

How much did the new cam improve the motor performance? And did you lose any jake retarding with it?

Make sure the tech has a generator that will do 3-400 IC files. Most of the generators will not create passwords for these files. When this happens then you have to have the old file with the same IC to flash it back to original settings without passwords. Let's say it's a 319 IC file, make sure he has a 319 IC file before you try to change it to the 435 IC file. Otherwise you'll end up with a non-responsive ECM and the truck will only idle.

To get the part number off the camshaft, you'll need to remove the small cover on the rear of the cylinder head. The part # is stamped on the end of the camshaft at the rear camshaft journal.

This cover is a pain in the ### to remove. The screws are counter sunk into the cover and torx heads........most of the time the torx bit breaks and the screw head is destroyed and you'll need an air chisel to drive the heads around to loosen them.
