Depends on the tractor and trailer... Your answer can vary by a few thousand pounds on this one.
"Standard" tractor weight is about 18,500, but can be from 17 to 20k. Trailers will vary between 17-20, depending on the set up.
If you're looking for how much load you can carry, try to stay under 44k. I don't like messing with anything over 42k. Some shippers don't count pallet weight in their totals. -
how would you load a trailer properly?
-
If a reefer trailer, I tell them Light in the front, Heavy in the middle, and Light in the rear. If it is a Dry Van Trailer I tell them Heavy in front and middle and Light in the rear. Never had a problem this way.
BTW, My truck and trailer (reefer) weigh 33,200 lbs. empty with full tanks on truck and trailer and all my stuff plus me in the truck. -
if I need to load 30 pallets each 1400 lb how do I do it.
Is there some difference between a reefer and a dry van trailer, I mean if I have a load and the broker ask me for a dry van trailer can I load it on the reefer? -
Reefers are heavier than vans. The load you described is light enough for either trailer. My guess is that you will be double decking eight pallets because a 48' trailer holds eleven rows, 22 pallets on the floor. Some reefers do not have sufficient interior height for double stacking because of the meat rails or the cold air distribution canvas duct.
