This place is really screwed. This morning the ice on 285 was 1" thick. It was a parking lot from I85 to I20E merge. Drivers were sleeping in their trucks.
There are guys in FL waiting at truck stops because they don't want to deal with the ice.
It's begining to melt at my house but the temps are dropping, so you know what that means. -
According to one screwed up online report, the GDOT trucks weren't even able to start spreading ICE until today! Honest, that's what it said in the report!
Wedge Thanks this. -
Someone needs to teach these guys how to handle snow/ice storms. I can't believe this is normal down here?
I'm from New England and we know how to deal with snow.
GA needs to spring for some more equipment and a consultant.

South of the Mason Dixon line they don't know a thing about dealing with snow and ice.

The way things have been, they need to get some equipment and some salt or something to have on hand!
Wedge Thanks this. -
Perhaps the fine people of georgia,
are content with how WE handle it.................Wedge Thanks this. -
123456, I saw Hinesville in your sig and that brings back some memories. Mainly wet t-shirt contests.

We're still in the mess over here in Ark from it, Wedge.... I can relate... I-30 and evrything around was shutdown and now the roads are melting, but it'll be at least a couple of 10-15 deg nights still ahead with lots of water out there!
There were drivers 8, 10,12 hours and more in their cabs on the road....
Hang in there!

Sounds like you work for the GA DOT.
Well, maybe WE..... are not content. The only folks I see with smiles on their faces are the kids with a few days off from school who get to play in the snow.
If you have to work for a living, it bites. Maybe we should take a survey and ask all the truckers stuck in the parking lot on I285 for the last 2 days if they're content.chompi Thanks this. -
The GA DOT is playing catch up. There's a lot of ice that needs sand and salt. I don't know if the state has the resources or not. With some cold nights coming, it might be a couple more days before the roads return to some type of normalcy.
The sun should make an appearance tomorrow. That will help.
