C.R. England has invited me for orientation in Indiana. From what I've read here, it's a bad idea to go into their lease, but I don't want to do that. I haven't seen anything about just being a company driver, so is this company still a bad idea? I've been turned down by one company after another for various reasons, so they seem like a last resort. Any advice?

They are counting on that. That is how they stay in biz by preying on drivers in your situation.

Like yourself, I had no option @ entrylevel. I survived as co drvr long enough 2 qualify 4 better employ. I wud suggest u do as I did if u really want 2b drvr - pay ur tuition off w/accelerated payments.

I earned approx 24K the 8 mos in their employ b4 repayment of approx $2400 on the 2K tuition bill.

I do not promote this carrier 4 entrylevel, however, I am proud 2 achieve the statue I hold as drvr.

I called England and told them to make sure that I was already eligible for hire before I went to orientation, so that I wouldn't be going all the way out there for nothing. They called back and told me my job history wasn't stable enough. That's what pretty much everyone else is telling me too, but I managed to get hired on to a local company driving a concrete mixer. It's not why I went to school, but still requires a CDL and I'm still applying alot of what I learned at the school, just not pulling a trailer. I'll stick around there and reapply to some OTR companies after I've been there a few years, even if I have to take a refresher at my school. Thanks for the advice guys.

I work for them for 4 months your out for 13 wks of training after that they will give u 4 days of home time then for thier it all down hill you be out for 4 to 6 wks before you see home time get ude to sitting at shippers -n- loaded late then have to make dead line thier pay bites at 26 a mile -n- you don't get paid for sitting until after your 12 appt. i know they say us express is bad but can't be worst then england -n- what i been reading in here i got better chance with US express better pay better home time so if u want to do england thats up to i did it as a company driver -n- you will get the short end of the stick they even tell you they treat lease driver better but don't believe it. all i'll say is company drivers really do get the stink of it all
