Yes usually, but most times they forget about bathroom, meal, and DOT breaks. So it is your job to remind of them of hours of service.

Prime uses a standard of 50 mph on dispatches, but in the real world, not every load can be dispatched so that a solo can take it with HOS breaks at 50 mph. Loads with short fuses are given to teams - using the 50 mph standard. L/Os can go faster since they don't have to maintain a minimum fuel economy figure - it's up to them whether they want to run as fast as they can - or not; that decision is made on how much you want to spend on fuel.

I know this thread is older, but I'm wondering if anyone knows, how long is Prime taking to process applications currently?

Last month, I put in my application at Prime on a Thursday and then I called the next day in which the recruiter pulled my app and told me that she should have me approved by the upcoming Tuesday and that I should call back then. I called back that Tuesday and was approved to attend training as soon as the next Monday. So from someone who has applied recently, I can tell you it moved rather quick, much quicker than other companies I was considering. I took a few weeks to decide between Swift and Prime but at the last moment decided to go with Prime in which I'll be attending training next Tuesday. I was told they have classes starting weekly.

Well then, I guess I will write them off. I applied on-line over a week ago and have been trying to reach my "recruiter" ever since. He don't answer his phone. Thanks 18wheels!:biggrin_2556:

The time it takes will vary for everyone. The biggest problem is getting responses back from past employers. They will not hire you until they can verify your previous employment. One of my past employers would not get back to Prime via fax, telephone, or email, and was holding everything up. I ended up working with my recruiter and sent over a couple old pay stubs as well as a tax form proving I worked there. As soon as I did that, I was good to go.

The recruiters receive literally thousands of applications every week, and have thousands of people calling / emailing them every week. They are performing background checks, setting up transportation and lodging for new hires, among many other things. They will be very difficult to get a hold of. All you can do is be persistent, make yourself stand out, prepare yourself for long hold times, and give them a call. It's not a fun process, but remember they don't owe you a thing. You'll be dealing with shippers and receivers who make you wait for hours on end all the time. Consider this a test.

If you simply "write them off" it's no sweat off their back. The people who truly want it and work for it will be the ones they notice and will be the ones they hire.

I would like to thank ironpony, U2 and Trucker Mike, I applied with Prime for schooling and obviously to drive for them. I have another question though. I am considered a disable veteran, though if you look at me you wouldn't think it, and if anyone knows being a disabled vet under VA rules and being disabled are 2 entirely different things. Do I need to let Prime know of my vet status?? They already know I am retired Navy.

Being a 100% disabled veteran is completely different from the social security definition!!!

The DOT lays out what is disqualifying.........

I've been 100% for a long time, but still qualify for my DOT physical !!!!

    Good Luck !!!!
