Few questions about the HazMat endorsement in CA.

Do HazMat drivers get automatic license renewals like regular CDL holders do if you maintain a clean record? Or must you re-test for each renewal?

If you do re-test, do you only re-test for HazMat only or all CDL paperwork?

Is the background check every year or every other year? How much does it cost?

Thanks in advance, considering going for my HazMat later this year, but actually putting it to use will be very limited. Just trying to weigh out pro's & con's.

around here, its done each time you renew your license, so here the states i deal with, every 5 years, a CDL holder MUST take the hazmat test again, and the TSA background check again.....

but i am sure a califunny resident will be here soon...

Before you take Haz Mat for CA. You need to get cleared by the Federal govt (TSA). Before you reapply, you need to go here: http://www.tsa.gov/ and read and weep. Then apply, it will cost you......

Thank you, are they fairly accurate? I assume they cannot be too far off. I only got 5/10 on one, rest were 8/10 or better.

I'm a Calif Resident. The deal you retake the hazmat test and do the background check. The license and background check is good for 5 years.

Thanks for the answers....I'm leaning heavily towards applying when I get my M1 license later this spring.

I dont think so...its automatic that when you pass the background
the TSA will notify your state DMV....
