Are there any good companies?

Wolfen...... They Just canned a very good friend of mine due to a accident that was not her fault.
Sorry Wolfen, but about every state has some kind of "driving too fast under existing conditions" type of law. You can be doing under the speed limit, completely sober, have great equipment, etc. It doesn't matter, the fact that she slid on the ice is their case for her not taking due care and caution.
And hitting a fire truck?, that there is just some pure bad luck.

 

no offense, but you need to spend time reading more of the discussions, the answer to your question is everywhere. First off, every driver you talk to will have a different answer so you have to determine what YOU mean by a "good company". Pay? Home time? Hires newbies? Equipment? Lanes?
The obvious answer is right under this thread for bad companies, and is called the thread for good companies. Not to be a smart guy, but really, just research more and include the thread on motor carriers below the one for good companies. That lists most major outfits with threads for each one, good and bad. But its all opinion and some of it is bs, you are dealing with truckers after all. good luck!

 

OK, not to play devil's advocate or anything, because I'd never do that, but, um...

A fire truck working an accident? That means that there were flashing lights, emergency vehicles and cones all over the place. How fast was she going when she hit the fire truck?

 

Wannabe here,,what is LTL? APU? snap, I forgot the other abbr. I saw.

 

LTL=less than truckload, aka "motor freight". companies like yellow, abf, conway, estes, ups freight. all daycabs, local drivers paid by the hour, road drivers paid a high mileage rate and get set runs.

the most consistent, and highest paying part of trucking that is available to most drivers...

 

APU- auxilery power unit. Allows you to have heat and a/c and, if an inverter is installed, electricity.

As for the girl who got fired, she's been all over the Road dog channel. Didn't catch all of what it was about, but supposedly, she was complimented by everyone involved EXCEPT for CR england.

 

I started with R&L right out of the chute. Conway will also do this,as will Central,and if your lucky enough,ABF.You start as a dock worker/driver.I never once had to work the dock. Don't expect to have your hand held for weeks on end however.They'll put you with another driver for a day or 2 to kind of learn their system, then start giving you smaller runs to get your feet wet and see how you handle it.You will bust your hump, but you will get paid for each and every hour you work...

 

I think C R England and ups are best. But u try to know more.............

 

Best statement I heard all week. I currently work for a large co. that I would never want to work for. But I am on a local dedicated account. They have certain "requirements" that my company has to follow. Good for me, not so much for the company.

Remember- The contract is what details all the job related work/pay i.e. detention time/loading/ETA/length of haul/days of servise to name a few.

 

I agree Krooser... that would be hard to overlook. I hope no one working on the original accident got hurt by the second collision .
