I downloaded the PDF from Northstar and none of their units are pump operated. Watch out people, this guy is making stuff up. Read the last line of the warning below. The reason you can't have a gravity fed system is to stop an external fuel tank from leaking it's entire contents onto the ground. It creates too much pressure on the float valve in the carburetor which regulates the fuel level in the bowl. This is why the FMCSA stickly forbids these types of setups. You can carry a gas can and keep filling up your unit and that's OK. If you notice all the real APU units for a truck they actually have a pump that's connected to your trucks fuel tank.

What do you use for heating and cooling?

Your best bet would be to cut a hole in the back of your truck and mount an A/C unit that also has a heat strip. This is what I've had for the past 3 years. It's a 22,000btu unit and runs off 110 volts. Most of these units are slow start up which means they don't come on like gang busters right off the bat. A 2000 watt generator will easily power these units.

I use a 5k window a/c unit to cool, and a space heater i set up next to the shifter.

i would have preferred a larger a/c, but my window opening is narrow, so i got 1 that would fit.:biggrin_25519:

Does anyone have any experience with Articbreeze units? Totally electric with extra batteries to run it. articbreeze-truckac.com is the site.
It might be worth looking into if the price isn't out of site.

how and where do you store the fuel, since it's gas? How long have you had it on the truck that way. It looks real workable. However, is the road jarring tearing it up? I have a diesel feed gen on my truck and it 'fell apart' in about 3 weeks. It's not a Honda. I'm needing to replace my gen. Is yours legal for CA, 2011 legal?

I'm sure somewhere in here is your address and phone number in AZ. I live in Mesa and have to replace my 'problem' diesel feed gen with something that will work better. I have a 13500 roof mount a/c with heat strip already installed. Use a cheap heater inside cab. Please let me know how to get with you in Az to solve my problem. Thanks

If you buy a Freightliner with a APU and you pay what 9,000 for it what is the re-sale value in say three years, It would have paid for itself by then, in fuel savings and main engine wear.
Is there any truck sales people on this site.
If there are used truck sales people I would also like there opinion about cutting holes in the sleeper back.
I know when you are driving there is some toxic fumes and road debris running around the back of the cab, and it seems to me the one pictured would need a cover at a minimum.
I worked in a dealership and have seen a lot of modifications done to a truck, some very professionally done. I know when you want to sell it, you need to sell it privately no one wants your modifications, at a dealership.
    Just a thought!
