    Regional/dedicated Companies, better home time

    Hello
I am sending this for my OTR driver Husband. He is almost done with his 1 year commitment driving refers and I don't want to say which company but I am sure you can guess (that is only reefers and pays for CDL and training) . The company has been pretty good to us but with the exception of lately doing forced loads to NYC, and NJ. Might be better if a team were doing the run but single driver and those streets etc do not mix. Our other complaint is if we are lucky we get to see each other once a month, like I said if we are lucky. Money, well it seems at times my job pays for him to dive for them, when he is left sitting waiting to drop or pick up a load and plane ole sitting days at times. Re-powers are common and when he gets them they are often already late or no way to be legal and get the load to it's destination.
What we are looking for is a company that does a good job of home time (we have a 7yo son, not to mention I have some health problems that are not getting better trying to keep a job of my own, and be a single parent to our son). And runs to NYC, Newark, and FL are not my idea of places I feel good knowing he is sleeping in a truck at some rest area or if lucky a real truck stop. When I worked for the airlines we got employee warnings about these places. And even though I like some time alone I do not wish to make it permanate due to some thug.
We are looking for somthing in the Denver or Colorado Springs area. We don't mind some time apart but weekly quality home time (not home for the night then up early to get a load). I guess they would be any of the above, Local, Reginal, dedicated or OTR with weekly home time.
Any suggestions you can offer would be a great help. Thanks in advance fory you help... Drive safe!!!

LOL you got it on the first guess. Word is now that due to being routed solo through Newark NJ on a route they said to stick to. He managed to hit a low bridge that was not marked and only saw the sign way off to the side of the road in little letters and damaged the reefer. So now it is either 90 days suspended or termination. Either way does not look good for him. Well at least he wont have to do NY or NJ anymore <G>,, have to find some good in it at least... So what will this do to his chances at another company? Maybe will end up driving a trash truck for 20.00 a hr instead and be home everynight.
    Thanks
    Keep safe on those roads!!!

    Chahase,

It shouldn't be his fault since they routed him on that road. Why do a 90 day suspension instead of a shorter one?

well at least with a 90 day suspension you will get to see him now!

Unfortunatly he just got alot harder to hire.

Most any refer outfit will involve a ton of sitting. 12 hours waiting to get a door was the norm back inmy refer days. Days sitting in farm fields, breaking down pallets etc. couldn't pay me to do it now.

tell him to go to flatbeds... (they usually aren't as tall!!):biggrin_25523: And maverick offers weekends at home if they run in that area. They will train on flats but I don't know if they will hire him seeing that he just toped a trailer

For flat bed try the following:

    Melton Truck Lines, Maverick.

Schneider does have dedicated in Colorado as well as Heartland Express from PHX.

If you husband wants to try Swift, tell him too.

Check with Watkins and Shepard. You can get a regional position as long as you live within 100 miles of one of their terminals. Hometime is 1 day off for every six days out and I have had no trouble getting hometime.

You are captain of the truck, anything that happens is your responsibility. You the driver must check to make sure route is safe.

When in doubt, stop, get out and look.
