So I figured I would share my bad TMC story here as well.
So I started orientation on Jan 3rd. 1st week went great. 2nd week was going great until Wednesday Jan 12th. On Wednesday we met our training coordinater. I found out that instead of going home for the weekend I was going to have to stay in the hotel in Des Moines. I was going to get picked up by my trainer, who was from Oklahoma. I live in Florida. I knew going in that I would probably spend the whole 5 weeks with a trainer out on the road. But I was told by my recruiter that I would come home after the 2 week orientation.
So here starts my trouble. I talked to my training coordinator and found out thy only have 1 trainer in Florida. He is a non-smoker and will not take smokers. There were 2 of us from Tallahassee FL and we are both smokers. Now the other guy is a single guy who sold his house and asked to leave from Des Moines with a trainer. And he got a trainer from Tennessee. I have an 8 week old son. If I stay gone for 8 solid weeks for training, plus however long they take to get me home after I get my truck, I would have missed over half of my sons life.
So as a Man I go and ask about getting home to see my family. I offer to quit smoking to get on with the trainer from FL and get told that doesn't work for TMC. Ask about getting with the trainer from Tennessee so there is a chance I might get home and get told it is too late to change it.
So here is where TMC proved exactly how ###### they really are. On the very 1st day of Orientation we were told if anything wasn't working out come to them as a man and say so. If you need to go home they will get you home. So I made the decision to leave. I went to Jeff, the head of training, and asked again about getting a different trainer, no go. So I told him I was leaving. They gave me a ride to the hotel and then the gryhound station. There was another guy that had been asking about gtting paid if he quit since Monday. They sent him home. So we get to the bus station and they have bought him a ticket but not me.
So I called Jeff and asked what was going on, his exact answer was "What am I a ####### travel agent?"
So not only did they #### me over when I talked to my friend 3 hours later everyone in orientation already knew they stranded me.
I personally hope Jeff burns in hell. Most of the people there are cool. But the recruiters are full of #### and no one will let you talk to anybody over Jeff's head. The road and yard instructors are mostly part timers who have never worked for TMC, because TMC won't hire them full time so they don't have to pay benefits. There trucks are all pieces of ####. The drivers that have been injured all have to work on the yard, cause they don't want to pay workers comp.

Did you actually believe a recruiter who told you that you could take a vacation in the middle of the training and hiring process? Like he would have any control over that?
If you're going to survive in this, or any other business, you're going to have to be flexible and put business first. A company can't survive by working around your schedule. Things change, people get sick, traffic and weather conditions deteriorate, customers change their minds. YOu can't count on anything but change*. As a driver, as important as you and your family may be to you, you're just another brick in the wall. You have to move when the rest of the bricks are shuffled.

WOW! Dont know what to say about this. As an ex business owner I know you still have to protect your self, and they have laid out a good amount of cash to get you to the point you were. And I also understand your situation as wanting to get home and you should hve been provided a means of getting there. Buttttttt, if you are already having issues of getting home to your family and you just completed orientation. What are you gonna do when you have home time and you get stuck in a weather condition and you dont get home until a week later? You gonna just up and leave the truck sitting so you can get home? My opinion (and we all have them) is that maybe you shoul dhave checked out the OTR business a little better and realized the strain it is going to put on you and your family. I would not suggest to anyone that they go OTR with such a young family unless you had some other previous experiance of being away from home.

I completly undrstand your point. I fully expected that due to living in Florida that I would probably never make it home during the 5 week training OTR and that once I was in my own truck it would probably be every 3 weeks that I would get home. My biggest issue was the fact that they were going to keep me out 8 straight weeks and didn't give a sh@t about trying to work with me.
I will say, that very much to my surprise, I did just get paid for my first week. Which at least covers my bus ticket home.
I have some other apps submitted and hope to be in orientation somewhere else very soon.
The wife and I did put a lot of thought into this, and it is best for our current situation. -

Do you get my point? You should have sucked it up and gone through orientation and out with a trainer. You may have the same problem with any company you go with.
