One thing is for sure.... it's attitudes like this from a trainer or mentor that keep people thinking this is an unskilled labor position! Funny thing is I've seen posts where good information has been passed along.
As far as some mentor or trainer "holding my future" in his hands.... that's a two way street and this thread should stand as proof! Makes you wonder about the critical thinking skills of some..... especially a "trainer" willing to offer lame excuses as opposed to recommending they work at keeping their CDL record clean as they've suggested in the past!
Rerun is probably right.... I have no doubt that many truckers don't do full PTI's. But to suggest keeping one's mouth shut over an azzhat who won't even do a walk-around is friggin ridiculous.
As far as some mentor dumping you in the middle of nowhere.... well, we're all big boys and girls and can figure out what to do to get home! We certainly don't need "hand holding" as some might like to think!
Besides, If this guy finds a problem on the truck or trailer and the mentor dumps him in the middle of nowhere for doing an inspection.... his first call should be to a LEO and report the truck as unsafe if it truly is! If the "mentor" gets an OOS... that alone will be enough documentation to support the facts.
As far as someone being a pilot or holding a CDL..... well, they're both federally regulated industries! For a "professional" trainer in any regulated industry to make a suggestion of "just keep your mouth shut" when safety may be at stake.... it speaks volumes!
But I'm sure someone will attempt to redirect from the obvious and point out I'm just a wannabe who don't know #####! But is surely makes one wonder if certain trainers don't need additional training also? But that's just my opinion....
No food! No water or bathroom and expected to stay in truck

Aaahhh, ok. So.... can I assume that it didn't turn out well for him? (or his trainees) -
Nah...DickJones was in Phoenix when all this was going on. He might be a richardhead to deal with, but at least he's smart enough to make sure his student would have his meds.
And he's the type to stand there with a check list and pick someone apart for missing part of the PTI.The Challenger Thanks this. -
You beat me to it! Exactly what I thought as I read this.
