Earlier this am my husband was in New Castle PA. Snowing pretty good there and he was getting passed by a lot of other trucks. :biggrin_25513: All he could say was he'd see them in the ditch later as he passed them. :biggrin_25522: He was MT headed to OH for a load. Be safe out there!

i have seen way too much the mentality of these trucking companies. not too mention, in my area, there aren't too many mom and pop places...most are large companies, be they OTR or regional that we deal with...so it goes with what we have to deal with, this a problem for you to understand...???

yes, and no...i wish him the best, but expecting the worst.

or maybe put him on "probation"....?? small company or not, that tow bill the company will get is money taken from the profits..can any company afford such a bill..?? can YOU afford such a bill...??

he is STILL a student driver, not even a year yet...

You haven't updated your profile, so it still says your a student here. Obviously you're not a student because you're out driving on your own.

I guess you already know, but since it hasn't been said already, you have to be extra careful and go slower when you are empty on slick roads. Even when it's just raining, if you are empty it is a lot easier to start sliding. And even more so if you're bobtailing.

I thank you guys for your nice comments. I am home and all seems good. I've been given 2 loads that need to be done tomorrow so they are still trusting me.

For the record, I am not mr.supertrucker that was flying around passing people. this happened at 3:30am before the plows were out. I was driving on compact snow and my 40-45 speed seemed safe to me. I was not slipping or sliding at all. I just happened to go around a corner and hit a massive snow drift on the highway. There had not been any drifting previous to the drift I hit. Obvioulsy I would give anything to go back in time and do things differently, but lesson learned the hard way.

It sounds like your boss was or maybe still is a driver.

Glad you're okay. Smelly brown things are bound to occur.

Ok, I was with Swift. I stopped on the shoulder of a rest area (full) to send a Q message of "running late" due to snow and re-route. As I tried to pull back to the on ramp, the rig started to fishtail toward the ditch. I chained up and raising my tag axle; still fishtailed. Now I was just about to hit the soft dirt. I finally broke down and called the wrecker to pull me back on the ramp.

Swift had no problem with it, covered the bill. They didn't even ding my DAC. I was told by safety and DM it was just bad luck. Not all mega-corps are evil. Just some of the people working there.

Going slower? No. If you were going 30mph under the limit in order to feel safe, then I would say that in retrospect you should have been parked. Of course that's just my opinion and lord knows I'm no expert. My limit is usually 20 under posted. If I can't do 20 under posted and feel safe, then I've got no business being on the road in those conditions IMHO.

Well if the boss hands you a tow bill, just pay it and life goes on.
Sounds like you have good boss.

Things happen and you did not get hurt. That's the main thing.

    Stay safe and warm.
