The position I hold with my present company requires that I give a 30 day notice and since they will not buy me out of the lease at my apartment I want to ensure that they pay for January (turning in my resignation 31 Dec after 5pm). My lease buy out is costing me around $2500, them paying for January will knock it down by $700.

dont you get free showers for fueling? always did from what i remember

thanks OP for the first 5 days, anyway. sounds like the bulk of instructing and training is behind the wheel, and if you self-start a little bit the waiting times can be minimized.

what tools does a driver need? what are some of the common truck/trailer breaks that companies expect (or appreciate) drivers fixing themselves?
this is something that concerns me because i am mechanically illiterate. -
A set of screwdrivers and a selection of wrenches helps. Duct tape. Something to cut metal trailer seals with. Vise grips. A hammer. You'll definitely need a good flashlite, tire pressure gage. You'll acquire tools as you go.
You have to be able to check your oil, and tire pressure. You need to at least know how to throw tire chains.
Other than that, you should be able to change light bulbs. Helps to be able to change wiper blades. The more you can do the more it will benefit you by being ready for another load sooner than having to go to a repair shop, get in line, wait for the repair, etc. -
If your at a truck stop yes if you buy 50 gals. of fuel you get free shower. At the terminal they have free showers.

depends what division you are going in. As a student you don't need tools. As for the brakes on the trailer and tractor. NO you dont touch the breaks as they should tell you this in orientation. All their trucks and trailers have self adjusting brakes. If any is not adjusted properly then there is an issue that needs to be fixed in the shop.
