There's any number of reason for the "visit". I hear driver's every day that tell me crazy, wild arse story about the phantom" truker that they heard of got stopped for some off the wall reason and ticketed. Like Otherhalftw posted, my guess is #########. I wasn't there so I can't speculate or assume anything as related to that stop. But I will tell you the stuff that gets spread amongst truck stops, fuel islands and the like can be far...far from the truth. Like some have posted, if you have your stuff up to par, you have no reason to worry. When you get the "visit", it will be for no violations. Which can you believe this............................. I actually have some guys get these types of reports.:biggrin_25525: . To tell you what I am seeing, I have quite a few a day that have no violations. It seems CSA has gotten a lot of driver's attention to detail, or that is what they are telling me.

The real issue that no one is addressing is the overBEARing nature of the government agencies who are "in charge". They may be "valid" citations, but they are financially propping up their jurisdictions by unfairly targeting the "professional" driver (who by federal standards does not deserve that stature due to the fact that we drivers are classified as unskilled labor, but I digress...). The fact that most states are financially screwed is not my problem. A valid citation or not, I will do everything in my power to weasel out of paying the fine. I feel it is not my responsibility to fund their irresponsibility and they can take the short drive through purgatory and go straight to hell...:biggrin_25523:

I take pride in my ride and keeping it legal. I'm the one that inherits everyone elses bad dropped trailer and fixes it. One can defend their profession. But there is good and bad in ANY job. The failed inspection I got in San Diego is a perfect example. I never had such a thorough inspection before. When it was all over with, I was handed a failed inspection stating I had no trailer brake lights. So I go out there to fix them and they were working perfectly, just like they were during my pretrip an hour earlier. WTF?

Guys like that just trying to make themselves look better don't even think of the ramifications they leave behind. He done me that way, he'll do another. Now with CSA2010, that guy will be leaving a trail of terror.
The whole idea to reprimand someone is so they learn a lesson and correct it from happening again, on top of keeping the roads safe. I learned a lesson that day. Not all are perfect. Even law officers.

Truckers are famous for stretching the truth. If I hear a wild story, most likely not, but maybe, just possibly, it could be true. Because I been there.

    I agree somewhat.......

It has to do with the education on both sides of the badge.....

I was pulled in for an L3 in Anthony, NM and was informed by a rookie DOT that logging from line 2 to to line 1 (And I flagged it too...) "starts the clock" on the (I logged "off duty" to take a shower at the truck stop) duty day.....He said he would "Let it go this time (He said that I was 1/2 hour over on my previous duty day...Exactly the time I was logged "off duty" to take a shower...), but for future reference, It's illegal to go from the sleeper to "off duty"....."

I knew the dip sheyat was wrong but, I was in hurry and didn't have time to argue with him.....

Then later that day, I got pulled in again at the Lordsburg P.O.E. for another L3....So I asked the DOT there about my "errant" logging....They said what I did was perfectly legal....Plus....if what I did...going from line 2 to line 1 was illegal....How does a driver do a "34" in the truck?

I show a post trip on line 4....then if I'm not hitting the rack....I go to line 1 and then to line 2 when I hit the rack....Rinse.....repeat....When I do the "34" in the rig......

Bottom line....Just as much as it is the job of LEOs to know the laws and regs....It is our job as drivers, to know as much as well......

Yeah, almost all are good at what they do. I was just pointing out there are some bad apples and some truckers stories might be true because of it. It's a crazy world sometimes.

I suppose if the DOT wanted to get real technical, he is correct in saying going from sleeper to off duty starts your clock. Because, if you climb out of the sleeper and make an entry in your log book, you are on duty, while making that entry.

So if a broker calls you on your "34" are you supposed to not answer the call because you might have to log it "On duty...Talking to broker"?.....:biggrin_25523:
