I'm looking for some recommendations on a set of pliers for removing plastic lug nut covers. I have a cheap set of off-shore ones that don't work well at all. Their grip on the cover is poor and the handles are thin and hard on the hands. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Just get a kit of covers you like. I recomend you covers with arrows. You can see if any nut self unscrews. Also get covers made of soft plastic, if you overheat brakes you'll see covers melt and you will know about brake broblems

you can try some channel lock pliers--put a bit of hose or shrink tubing over the jaws so it doesnt mar the cover
those pliers for nut buddys really never seem to work

I had a set of screw on nut covers. Liked them the best. They would crack if a nut backed off into them. Had that happen once after a new tire was put on. Saw a cracked cover and unscrewed it. Nut was loose behind it. Got it tightened back up and replaced the cover. Didn't have a problem again.

This works the best. I've never seen a pair of nut cover pliers that were any good.

As the owner of a small truck tire company who has tried numerous products over the years,I would have to say lug nut cover pliers by a company named OTC. They are a bit expensive ($40-50) but they definitely get the job done. We have a pair in the shop and another on our service truck and have had no issues thus far. Hope this helped.
