Just about finished Swift's online testing. Some interesting information, but mostly just repeating the information in the (Ohio) cdl testing booklet. Some of their questions in the tests are phrased in a confusing or vague manner. Little devils.

Do you have to do these before going off to training?

I asked the safety manager at our terminal about any required classes before I hit the road. He looked in the system, and it did not show that I needed to take any before I left. I was not able to log into "swift university " anyway so it would have been impossible to complete the classes on time.

Before you leave for swift CDL training you do. Its part of the school from what my recruiter says.

    Swift requires it.

I second you on the confusing/vague questions. The actual CDL test isn't any better, especially anything regarding braking.

Squeeze braking is another term for controlled braking? Really? Because this isn't in the CDL manual. Maybe Jo-Jo shouldn't be writing the test questions, ya think?

I took my DMV written tests on Saturday (for the permit) and I agree about some of the questions. I studied the General Knowledge, air brakes and combination vehicle sections pretty closely and I remember seeing a few questions that were out of left field.

Are these Swift tests something I can initiate myself or do I have to contact them to get that set up? Steadily trying to get my ducks in a row on this.

Your recruiter will set them up online, then you can take them as you can. I was off work this weekend, so I just did it all. Videos were boring, but you had better pay attention to them prior to the tests.:yes2557:

My recruiter set it up over the phone. Instructions for accessing the testing website were also included with the documents the recruiter emailed me.

I dunno if they only do this for people who haven't got their permit yet, or if it's for every new applicant. I'd give your recruiter a call and check.

If you think the permit test questions are bad, just wait lol. One of the tests I had to do in cdl school was provided by the DOT or FMCSA not sure which but this test was mandatory to graduate. Several of the questions were missing parts of the answers and the school was told they cannot fix it.

The one that sticks in mind is a question about a flat tire, I put none of the above.
The correct answer was B. Cannot drive the vehicle untill the tire is removed.
It seems they forgot to type in the part about replacing it, and to think these are the same people coming up with the regulations that we have to follow.

Good luck to all, and here's a hint an instructor gave me for dealing with those tests:
Read all the answers before you read the question, you can eliminate a lot of the senseless garbage that way. It actually works quite well, untill you have some of the misworded questions.

You can retake the tests over and over till youget a passing score of 80. I had to retake 2 or 3 of them a couple times because I had distractions here.
