They do clear the way pretty darn well... The city is quite different and not nice to us truckers! lol
LKS like someone spoke too soon about the lack of Canadia... I must say other then my first trip up there I have been lucky. I don't mind... Its part of the job... lol
Found out from Wiseguy that I've been running up there and not had all the paperwork I'd need if I caught a load out... lol not inward manifests. Got them now! Thanks WISE!!! lol

A relatively easy day. Loaded along with another Roehl driver at Old Fort and we are both headed to York, PA. I decided to stop at the Pilot just NW of Harrisburg off Hwy 22 as there is no over night parking at the customer and not much parking area anywhere nearby that I am aware of beyond that small place at exit 32 off of I-83 and I didn't want to risk that one being full.
Going to be lots more podunk roads tomorrow as I have to pick up in Alexandria, PA after unloading and then rolling up US219 toward Buffalo. Should have enough hours left to make it to Brampton if all things work smoothly.
Thanks for the manual links. I downloaded the pdf and set everything up but the cb doesn't seem to work well. I would only get an occasional signal from someone talking if they were real close. It did pick up the blue tooth signal from my phone and I could talk through the cb but the sound wasn't too good on the receiving end I was told although I could hear them well on the speaker. Just took it off and reconnected my little old Cobra 19 that has served its purpose well thus far. -
Ran pretty hard the last two days, particularly yesterday. Made it up and back out of Canada with little pain as it was the exact run in and out that I had the last time so I knew the locations. The worse part was dealing with US129 last night through PA and NY. Roads were marginal and the temp dropped to (-12). Made it to customer with 2 minutes on my 14
Coming out today had a really big ####### custom officer. I am generally pretty restrained but I really wanted to put this ###### in his place but I just smiled and went on through and about my business.
Load is heading to South Carolina and I am sitting at the TA in Harrisburg, PA tonight. Only got 9 hours tomorrow so won't be able to make it until Wednesday to customer but that gives me a little opportunity to sleep in tomorrow a bit. -
That -12 crap sucked, got snot cycles loading the wood furnace last night (only took about 5 minutes).
Glad to hear Canada wasn't too much of a pain. -
Well got rid of that Canadian load down in Bennettsville, SC. Requested another Phoenix, AZ load but no go
but did get a warmer weather load to southern Georgia.

Dropped off my Home Depot load at the whse this afternoon in Lake Park, GA. I have had an air leak the last couple of days, nothing that would cause a severe problem but an air leak none the less. Wanted to get this load off before getting it fixed. Got a new air line put on after the drop and rolled on into a Meadwestvaco that I have not picked up at before along the Alabama/Georgia border. Got the preloaded trailer and headed on down the road about a mile at a small store/bar where I am over nighting.
Some of the best investments I have made for trucking thus far:
1.Dickies insulated coveralls, these things are the bomb for cold weather
2. Some -40 degree boots from Wal-Mart, comfortable and warm and water proof.
3. Vice grips, just used these puppies again today to hold the tandem puller out so I could slide my tandems.
4. Glad hand attachment air hose, saved me a couple of times being able to air flat tires up to at least get them to places to fix them
I had to stop and call in to a company today about a driver from Southern AG. Was motoring along on two lane US 319, speed limit 55, when this SA driver decides to pass me on a 200-300 yard hill across a solid line. This was just plain stupid. If a vehicle had been coming over the hill it would have been nasty as no one had anywhere to go. Makes no #### sense as there were plenty of straight aways where he/she could have easily passed me if they wanted to go faster than the speed limit.
Probably stopping in at Ellenwood tomorrow as I need them to have a look at the trailer lights and I need to refill all of my fluids, do some laundry and pick up some vittles at Wal-Mart. Only got 8.5 hrs available tomorrow so should be a fairly low maintenance day. -
Cottonton, AL? Was there recently myself, was going the whole way to Canada.
-
Yep, Alabama. I suppose we go there quite often as I was talking to another driver today at Ellenwood who was also there last night.
Stopped in at Ellenwood today as I needed to get my ignition changed out as I broke the key off in it a couple of weeks ago. I had time today and needed to restock supplies and do laundry so figured today was a good time to do that while I waited on the repair. Got the repair done and refilled my liquids as I was bone dry on all of them.
Decided to stop a little early tonight in Duncan, SC. I will have a full 11 hours to work with tomorrow and will need them as I got a preplan to pick back up in Roanoke, VA after dropping at Covington, VA. Finally going to get to cross the Mississippi river after two weeks of running east coast and frozen tundra lands
Will be heading to OK City. I haven't checked the weather forecast for that direction but certainly has to be better than heading back up north.
Also going to try and speak to someone about us getting paid for those extra miles we have to run when going to Covington, VA from the south as we are certainly getting shorted as the calculations are taken from running US 220 from Roanoke which is not on the National Network. That loop up to I-81 connecting to I-64 adds a good 60 miles to the trip and then you get shafted coming back out heading south for the same miles.
Miles 1/22-1/28/2011
1/21-1/23 Sharonville, OH-- Old Fort, OH--York, PA ------------- (513/636)
1/23-1/24 York, PA--Alexandria, PA-- Brampton, ON------------- 473
1/24-1/26 Brampton, ON --- Kingston, ON --- Bennettsville, SC --- 1093
1/26-1/27 Bennettsville, SC -- Fort Mill, SC -- Lake Park, GA ----- 508
1/27-1/28 Lake Park, GA -- Cottonton, AL --- Lowmoor, VA ----- (489/794)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week 4 miles: 3076 + 50.00 Canada Paydavect Thanks this. -
Maybe someone can help me out a bit. I have been around the trucking industry for my whole life, my dad is an O/O and has been for as long as I can remember he seems to like drivin truck and I was thinkin about givin it a shot. I recently graduated college with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and have been looking for a cop job for over a year. That hasn't been going the best and since I have a wife and two kids I need to start making decent money. I have been looking for truck companies that train and found a few (Roehl, Prime, CR England, Stevens Transport) well CR England is a go for sure. She said I could start on Feb. 7th. Roehl said that the school doesn't start until the end of Feb. to early Mar. When you get done with training are you guaranteed that you will get a solo driving spot? Also, for new people what fleet would be best?

Hey that's really cool. I just mapped out what you did and that's awesome. That's the part of the job that's so cool you get to see so many different places. To me I think that's awesome. What do I know I'm young and dumb...

check that out....that's exactly what you did! very cool!
