With the current worldwide economic climate WHY would a Canadian carrier need to import truck drivers?

Countless truck drivers are unemployed right now, a million are under employed so at this point in time we just don't need to import labor.

Given this poor labor climate WHY would a Canadian carrier import labor from half way across the world? Probably because NO self respecting Canadian will work for them because of their poor pay, poor/unsafe equipment, poor home time and countless other issues!

Still want to work for these people?

    You're a bit of a negative person, aren't ya?

I would have just told the OP to maybe check out Yanke, but that's just me I guess.

NO, I'm a realist. If you want to tell the OP that a scap carrier like Yanke will hire him then go ahead. Remember there's a reason scab carriers like Yanke hire from across the pond. Obviously you are happy with the status quo and want nothing better. Myself, I'd like more and allowing imported drivers which helps to keep wages down isn't the way is it?

Or, he could use Yanke as a way to get into Canada, put in his 1 or 2 years there, and then move on and continue being a productive member of Canada. I don't see unemployed drivers sitting around in Canada, but I do see unemployable drivers, due to attitude, mainly.

Talk to Manitoulin in Edmonton, Alberta. They have (had) a foreign driver program going but you are going to need experience as you would be pulling two trailers, one 48 feet and the other 28 feet. You can Google for their phone number. PM me and I'll give you the name of the guy to talk to. I'm not going to publish his name in public.

You may want to try contacting Big Freight Systems Inc in Steinbach Manitoba.

I don't know anything about Big Freight. I've heard plenty, none of it good. Manitoulin pay OK. Starting rate is about .45 for a driver fresh out of school, and goes up to well over .50. They pay for hooks/splits and deliveries too.
