I don't know about you, but if I got a fax with an advertisement on the cover page, I'm throwing the second page away with the first.

So pay the $1.99. But who in the hell keeps the cover page anyway? I've sent them with this service numerous times, I've never had anyone complain about the cover page.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I'll go with a all in one printer and use softwere to fax.

No need to use cutepdf, every printer/scanner i've bought has had PDF conversion software built in. At least every HP.

Kodak does as well, but there are far more things you can do with CUTEPDF, than you can do with the scanner software alone, like "print" a web page (such as online trip information) to a PDF. I also have the option to send my DDL (DriversDailyLog) pages as a PDF directly to Safety, rather than sending them in every week.

Yes, I throw in another vote for CutePDF. It kinda surprises me that Adobe hasn't like, shut those guys down or something. But in the mean time we're loving it for using it to print logsheets as a PDF for emailing to the carrier.

The only problem I've had with .PDF files is the size. After a lot of testing I settled on .TIF compressed, Which reduces the file size up to 90% (relative to PDF) in some cases. This saves enormous amounts of upload time when your in a fringe area with slow connect speeds.

.TIF files can be manipulated by a number of free utilities. This is the format used by many email fax services (regardless the extension) And lends itself quite well to email, if you want to get away from faxing entirely. We went paperless/faxless several years ago, with no complaints from customers. Everyone loves it.

Well, at least in the context of logs, the PDF file that it makes is like 100k or smaller. (see attachment to this post)

It largely depends on what the raw file is that you are converting, but I haven't found large pdf's to be the case so far.

If you have a computer, scanner and air card, I would go with MyFax or E-Fax. You can scan whatever you like to fax and then login to their website, upload and fax. Its cheap and easy, I use Myfax and I like it. They charge me like $10 / month, I fax about 50 pages monthly.

Edit: You will have a fax number and you can also receive fax's. I use Adobe pro and scan in pdf (file size for one page no more then 40Kbs)
