Hey folks. I've been with Western since the middle of June. I should stress here that I'm on their WESTERN DIVISION, only running 11 western states. Home terminal is Fontana, CA. MUCH better situation here. We only have any dealings with Nashville at night or during the weekend (after about noon on Saturday) and that is extremely minimal. I've been out here since about '83 (driving OTR) and quite honestly have worked for MUCH worse companies. The per mile pay here isn't top notch by any means, but the mileage certainly makes up for that - and, again - I just run 11 western states. No dispatchers with a deity complex, and they stand by their drivers. Don't wreck, don't be late. Not that complicated. We DO have Qualcomms, but you don't get annoying pointless messages all day (and hey - if it's THAT important, they can call your cell...) The way the economy is...well, you can find companies who pay more per mile, but if you don't get any miles, what good is that? That's pretty much what I told one company I walked away from some time ago - they thought it a big deal when they gave us a raise, but like I told them - pay us a buck a mile if you want, but with no miles, that feel-good crap doesn't do anything for US as drivers...

I just got a email telling me to come on and they would treat me right, well I heard that from everybody, but I would like advice as wheather or not I am making the right decision to going to this place.. The last two outfits I was with dang near cost me my career. Please advise

i have read some good things and some bad things about western express and i guess for me being a newbie its a place to start to get my 1 yr in to go with another company i come from a family of truck drivers and they all tell me ya have to start somewhere when i get my year in with western i have several companies who will hire me after my 1 yr exp. , i am leaving to go to work for them on 2/1/2011, running out of the Fontana,CA terminal, after i do 10 days with a trainer out of Nashville, i am looking forward to it , is there anything that i can expect that will help me out in the long run

I left home ( florida) on sunday jan 30 2011 for nashville tn to work for western got there had to wait for driver to issue a po # for room got to room about 10 30 pm.
Day 1 monday morning 1/31/ 2011 went to orientation sat in room for half day just filling out paper work, then went to see dr (what a joke ) they do everything to try to disqualify u. I have no physical defects at all perfect health and dr told me my blood pressure was high. Oh they charge u 88.00 for physical after that they take you for lunch , then road test the truck u take road test in is a piece of junk syncros shot in trans fifthn wheel jaws shot trailer slams back n forth (instructor is cool) then back to motel .
Day 2 back to training ctr for more classes on how co operates n pay scales ( u pay for everything) 2.50 weekly to send in paper work thru transflo $500.00 if you get in accident n ure fault 50 dollars if ur logs r wrong n the list goes on after that they dispatch u either w trainer or in ur own trk dep on exp. I got 20 yrs otr but none recient and trin to get back in it so i had to go with trainer 2-4 weeks at 300.00 per week after taxes and expenses on the road u do the math I sat there all day tues 2/1/11 no dispatch all day wed 2/2/11 all day thurs 2/3/11 still no dispatch finally thurs night at 6pm they tell me they got a trainer and would be leaving tom 2/4/11 got call from trainer said would leave sun morn sun morn comes still not leavin no trailer gonna leave mon for 800 mile ride had to fight to get rooms for the stay van drivers dont like giving po's for rooms without auth finally after sun morn couldnt get po for room i said the hell with this #### n drove back home im trin to get back in to truckin to make a living n aint got time to sit there n play games with a company that tells there applicants they dont care if they work there or not so thats my experience with weastern u be ur own judge. I dont try to discourage ne one just state the facts n let them make their own decisions -
oh by trhe way if u go flat bed be prepaired for a 4 day orientatin and pay 135.00 for ur twic card them drivers make the money from what i was told just by talkin to some of there other drivers n most of their van loads come from maine with water
