seriously to wake up, and get energized, work out, push ups, walk around, lift weights if u got them on your truck. eat some fruit cuz fruit gives you good energy. you'll be surprised how awake you are after doing 20 minutes of a quick work out.
-
I've run line-haul too and just resting on the steering wheel did it for me. 20 mins max and then get out and walk around the truck. There's several different ways you can stay awake when needed. I liked the old radio stories where you can really get into those. But the best OTR job I had was hauling oversize loads. You could get into a routine every night because you had to shut down when it got dark. So it was getting fueled, showering, eating, calling home, watching TV or reading, then a good night sleep.
Just remember that nothing can take the place of sleep except sleep itself. -
I think I am an anomoly in the trucking world.... I drink decaf coffee, and don't drink pop.
What works best for me is to get up and on the road between 7-8am, and drive no later than 7-8pm (with 1-2 hours of breaks during the day). Listening to music helps keep me awake, along with keeping the temperature in the cab cool enough. Warm cab = tapeworm sleeps.... -
On the rare occasions I do get tired I have always used one method that would keep me up the rest of the night. I just get out, stretch, walk around the truck, go pee and then when I am ready to get back in the truck I slam one finger in the door. Nothing like a throbing pinky to keep you awake.
DispatcherExtraordinaire and Magnum1 Thank this. -

For me, getting to sleep is the easy part. Staying awake isn't that hard for me either. Smokes, caffinated beverages, and music. I can't sleep if I'm singing along to something. Even if I couldn't win american Idol while doing it.

If you're for real and not blowing smoke, man I'd like to work for you. Some of the most common sense words I've seen here.DispatcherExtraordinaire Thanks this. -
Amen. I will testify to that.
It almost doesn't make sense. You spend energy and you get it right back and more.
