OP is my travel agent .. I love her.. Before she came to work for us.. we was pushed to run..every load seemed HOT..drive all night to the first stop..to do a 4 stop load that you finished up around 3pm..then bust ars to get back haul some times 200 miles from last stop..then dispatched for a 7am delivery the next morning..So you had to drive all night again..there was no way to get 10 hours down.. We also have a new transportation director.. he is great also.. I run legal and get my rest..(was told if I was asked or forced to do any different to come straight to him and let it be known, and it would be taken care of) and still make a pretty good pay check.. We are a small company..more like family.. It is nice to work with people that dont think of us as robots and understand we get tired. I will work for this company for as long as they will have me

DispatcherExtraordinaire Thanks this. -
I will be watching this thread closely as well...as I just got pulled out of the truck this month and placed in our dispatch office. I hope to take words from you experienced drivers and dispatchers in order to better serve the guys I have on the road every day. Thanks, and good thread DispatcherExtraordinaire!
DispatcherExtraordinaire and red_eye Thank this. -
FD, it helps that you have been behind the wheel. I think I have a better understanding about what my guys are going through out on the road. Just remember to put yourself in their shoes and how you would want your dispatcher to handle the situation.
Flying Dutchman and red_eye Thank this. -
as a Driver Manager I do see the drivers issues that they have with their Dispatchers, as a Driver Manager you have to be very honest with your Drivers and never lie to them. Once you Disrespect and lie to your drivers you have lost that good relationship a Driver Manager and a Driver should have. Even though I work for a very Big Company and I have alot of Drivers on my Board I still take the time on every call from a driver to make sure i resolve the problem the driver is having. A driver cant be just a number and try to just get through the call as soon as possible. Being A Good Driver Manager requires having alot of patience and being very customer service friendly, and being able to listen to your drivers concerns

great post here,
1. if a driver is running late or running in bad weather, simply tell me and i will relay all info to csr and planner so customer will be notified and possible delivery time opened up
2.if you need sleep or cant keep your eyes open and need to stop for a break just let me know, and if your gonna be running late because of it then I will try to get your delivery or pickup time opened up
3.when drivers are sent there load assignment they can see the appt times and the appt times are set by the csr they are in constant contatct with the customer, the customer is the one who sets the appt time, only time the appt times change is if the customer calls and changes it or the driver calls and is being delayed due to weather or hos etc
4.yes i totally agree i myself have 5 different screens open at all times dealing with 5 different situations at all times. and if a driver needs a permit, express code or anything deal with it then and dont put it aside for later
5.never ever as a Driver Manager make a promise that you cant keep I never make promises like this regarding hometime because any kind of situation can happen and i cant look into the future -
yes you have to make sure your driver is ok, nothing is worse than getting that call that my truck is on fire or i have rolled my truck getting these calls does cause concern and you have to make sure that first off your driver is okLilbit Thanks this. -
another great post here i have to say i have seen this happen where other DM'S yell at drivers and argue with them on the phone. never yell or argue with your driver. your driver is your customer. your driver is the contact with your customer. i get the freight questions alot and i know how the freight is looking in all areas withing 30 mins of the start of my shift and i always let my drivers know if the freight is slow. its always good to have a good relationship ith your driver, ask them hoiw they are doing and how they been you dont have to spend 20 mins on the phone just jabbering but dont try to brush your driver aside the driver will see that
