turning right on red light

Same rules, just use extra caution as you would with any maneuver in a truck!

 

reason being the flow of traffic from the other side.(the ones with the green light)...a truck is way too slow to get around a corner as fast as a car.......and someone could slam into you....this could be your fault as you were blocking the lane of travel....

 

I would GUESS that going right on red in a combination vehicle would be illegal. I don't think I ever would, UNLESS I have adequate experience driving a CMV, I am still rolling, or I should say creeping where I am already in gear, I have a long and clear view of the 'right of way' traffic, and there is no traffic.

I do imagine though, if it did result in an accident, that a ticket would be in order for something like 'failure to yield'.

 

If you do a right turn on red make sure you come to a complete stop for at least a few seconds. I got busted back in 4/08 doing a RonR without coming to a complete stop. This was in a car. Doesn't matter that my recruiter tells me "it won't be a big deal," it concerns me to this day as I try to get into this industry.

 

It's not illegal unless posted and I think RR was making a safety statement. There's some stops out in the desert that you'd be there forever if you couldn't turn. Just about all your road laws will be the same as if you were in a car unless they post something different.

Railroad Crossings come to mind where you will not see a posted sign requiring you to stop or not and I believe thats because of hazmat. There are some crossings that you do not have to stop even ladened with hazmat.

 

unless of course you are in montreal--no right turn on a solid red---guess they just have to be different

 

About 93.735% of the time, (approximately) it's better to just wait for the light to turn green. If you see a car coming down the road and it's about a half mile away you wanna wait, in most cases.
