If your instructor is anything like the one I had you'll thank yourself for sticking with the smaller school... I know I did.
I had a few to pick from between "commercial CDL schools" (AKA: CDL Mill) and one at a local technical school... which is part of the area high school & has an entire staff of 2... the instructor & one woman from the adult-ed office.
Of course it didn't hurt my decicion that this particular school is featured right here in TTR...

If I get into the school that I am trying to attend the class size is only 4 max. It only lasts 4 weeks instead of 13 but you attend M-F 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. I have asked around and everyone that has either attended or knows about the school say that I will understand a lot about OTR and how to drive pretty well after attending. One person, that I spoke with, said they were hired on at a big OTR company along with several others. While in orientation, out of all the other newbies, only him and one other guy were actually able to drive the truck descently. He said the other guy that could drive told him that he went to a small school with only a few other students as well. I cannot wait until tomorrow so I can find out if I will be able to get the payment for school. I will post what happens as soon as I can. Thanx for readin'

Dog, it sounds like you have your crap together. Done your research, which is half the battle, then its attitude. You read like a good writer, so take and keep a lot of notes. Nothing like a notebook to look back on when you just forgot something, and bingo, out comes the notebook.
Good luck and have fun. -
I just wanted to give a little bit of an update. I was supposed to find out what will happen next, last friday. Well, as you all know the weather has been just a little rough. We are not used to this kind of weather so when it happens everything closes. The person that I need to speak with has closed the office until further notice so I will update this post as soon as I can get in touch with them. I hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Thanx for readin'

The program I am enrolled in, if you are one to progress fast enough, you get time on an actual skid pad, get to run actual freight(short day runs in the city) and things like that.

A link to the school...
I see it is a 400 hour program, but I could not find a cost.
Do you mind sharing that?
Mikeeee -
Is 400 hours alot?
The 4 courses together are $2,099.96, Plus $30 admission. I don't know about books yet.
That tuition rate is for Wisconsin residents(1 year) or a Minnesota Resident. Out of State tution will be higher. http://www.cvtc.edu/pages/204.aspLast edited: Feb 11, 2011

That's roughly 8 weeks. It is a bit much. Average schools run 3-6 weeks. Figure on 10-12 hour days 5 days a week. Just to add to your cost calculations they are most likely going to require you purchase a good, CURRENT, Motor Carrier Atlas. You will need it during school. Some schools charge extra for your actual license. This is mainly due to you having to go to the DMV and getting it. When you graduate you will most likely receive a piece of paper to take to your local DMV and then you have to pay them to get your card.
