i was thinking like the boots they use for dog slediing when dogs have to run on ice they are made out of leather and are more durable then the ones sold at pet smart

I would love to be able to take my chihuahua OTR, but Swift doesn't allow pets. Sigh....

I had a ####er Spaniel with me for years. Perfect size, not too big, not too small. Was very easy to train too.

As much as I'd like to have one of my dogs with me, it's not practical due to the places I load at that DON'T allow dogs on the property. This is becoming more and more common. Some of them, like Boise Cascade in Deridder, LA and Lion Copolymers in Baton Rouge actually check inside the truck.

Boise has a couple of kennels outside the guard shack where you can leave your dog, but I wouldn't do that any more than I would leave a small child locked in there to bake in the hot sun.

Just something to consider, if you haven't already.

Yorkies don't shed, and are good watch dogs.

You can actually make your own booties for the dogs. A lot of homeschoolers make them for the dogs running the Iditarod each year.

Here is a link to a step-by-step guide on how to make them yourself:

I have 2 Shih Tzu's and there great dogs for the truck or home. Hotels even let you bring them in. They don't shed either. The only problem with the Shih Tzu is that they tend to think there big dogs. Heart of a lion, and fun to be with. My one year old looks like this one. http://www.enchantingshihtzu.com/maleadult.html

My husband worked for Landspan as a solo driver for almost 3 years. On his last trip he was informed that all solo drivers were being dismissed...so he is now looking for another job. We have since acquired a Maltese female who has become the love of our lives...I travel with my husband twice a year for 5 or 6 weeks at a time, so now he will have to make sure the company he goes with has a pet policy. Maltese do not shed, and as long as the coat is kept in a puppy cut, maintenance isn't too bad. I will find a dry shampoo to be used in lieu of full baths while on the road, but we always get a hotel room for a couple of days to take a break when I'm out with him, so she will get a bath then. If anyone has any helpful tips on trucking with a dog all will be appreciated. Thanks.
