Need some help. On form 2290 it asks if the vehicle was in service during July 2010. I have know idea if it was or not. Is this a concern for me?

I'm trying to remember form 2290. I seem to recall when I bought my truck in Sept. '07, my 2290 was prorated because they are issued from July to July. Then again, I could be mistaken. Someone else will chime in who knows for sure.
Mike_NC Thanks this. -
You go by when you put it in service, they will prorate it from the service date until June 2011 and that is what you will pay. If you have a IRS office close by they will show you how to fill it out, it is easy.Last edited: Feb 6, 2011

Miles dont matter just when you put it in service. Go to your local IRS office they helped me the first time and seemed eager to do so. If you are just now putting it in service you will be ok. If you been running a couple of months you will have to pay a penalty too. I think you have 30 days but not sure.

Thanks DL550CAT I edited my post. To many super bowl beers I guess. The miles are for prorate not the IRS.

Thanks for help. I'll head down to the local IRS today.

Wait, before you run to the IRS office, did you just buy this truck? If so, the previous owner would have paid the 2290 on it for the year, and that transfers with the sale of the truck.

There was no record that the 2290 was paid or at least I didn't have any paperwork to show the IRS. I paid what I owe for this year.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

So the truck had been sitting for a while then?

Yes, It was owned by Ryder and sold to a local dealer.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
