When you are in orientation they will ask what you want to do and if there is a spot open when you get done training that is where you will assigned. Millis is not set up for team runs we use to have a few but i don't believe any of them are still doing it anymore. As far as tires go they wont worry about them wearing funny but you do need to check pressure in them on regular basis so you know if you have a tire that is going low or not

No Luck...SS Office said to contact either my employer, or the IRS. I'm just gonna spend the $40 and order them.
-
The only reason I ask is that most of the drivers I've talked to here seem to be solo and on my application I asked for team - but as you said we're not set up for team and now that I'm doing more investigative quieries I'm thinking it's not such a bad choice to be solo.
-
Dang, sorry man - it was worth a shot I suppose. I know they do print W-2's, but not the type you're looking for?

After you get your license and you are still with your trainer you might get to do a little bit of team driving with them. Believe i have been there and it is not easy to sleep while the truck is moving.
-
Well, this might be true for most - I can sleep just about anywhere; the thought of someone that I just met driving while I sleep is the part that's going to keep me up. I'm sure I'll get over it - they don't make just anyone trainers, right? Having to switch up from the trainer to another that's more permanent - that would be the true hurdle. I'm fairly easy to get along with and I don't have many pet-peeves, maybe country or western music, but not much else besides basic hygiene. What does the pay work like with team driving - still at what rate you agree to, but it's split? Or is it based on e-logs?

I myself got the word from Millis that I have been accepted to training. I chose the Georgia class starting March 14th. I applied yesterday and was approved today. I have 10 years experience but havn't driven OTR for about 6 years. I don't mind starting over. Everything I have seen about Millis is pretty good. Millis was my number 1 choice. The thing I really like about them is that they do all the ground work to get you approved BEFORE you go to ANY training or orientation. There isn't the not knowing if you have the qualifications until your there, like there is with most other companies. I made sure to ask more than once about my qualifications and made sure that I wasn't going to go to find out later I'm not up to par to be hired. It's good to know that I'll have a job after I prove myself to be a good driver and employee. Although I have previous driving experience, I know things have changed in trucking. There is a lot more to being a good driver than the ability to drive. I'm not thinking I'm going to breeze thru it, trust me, I've got a lot to learn!

Congrats! That's fairly fast actually, but hey, I'm sure you're not complaining.
This goes to prove a point some of the other drivers that are looking to employ with Millis - chances are you be accepted to join the re-training program faster than just transferring into the job from another. I'm sure this has to do with underwriters for their insurance carrier more than 'just to make a buck from a prospective driver'.
That's a great attitude guy. I'm a firm believer that if you don't open yourself to relearn something, your not expanding yourself mentally. Practice, practice, practice - or so the saying goes. How much research did you do for how many companies?
I almost had this horrible experience with a certain 'Mill School' in SLC... they told me I was accepted to their program and after the fourth phone call and my insistence of certain questions - well, I would have been walking home to GA! Not cool.
I've got an e-mail from Mr. M. Millis today with the welcome packet. There is a disclosure in it about not being guaranteed a position with MTI or Millis... but you know, legally covering the company's arse is expected. I'm sure with your background, expecting to graduate is more than likely.. maybe even at the top of the class? I'm sure you'll have no worries getting employed. I feel with the talk of some drivers, mainly the ones that are not equipped to handle the changes in this industry, I should be able to get one of their openings in their void. Noted, nothing is ever guaranteed - except life and death of course.
What made you chose this location? I see you live in Milton, IL... wouldn't the WI yard be closer?? - or maybe it's the start date perhaps? I've inquired, today, if they had any cancellations in this month for class, but it's likely it will go unchanged. If so, I'll see you at the March class as well.
Happy Trails. -
There sure aren't any guarantees, but I'm at least feeling confident that as long as I do well that there will be a job. I chose Georgia because of the timing. I also used to live near Atlanta. I have a niece thats down there too. -
Great News!!!!!!!!!
Just do what you're told - dont go in with any "pre-conceived" ideas and you'll do just fine. Remember - you're not actually hired until you pass the driving school. Once you do that - then you'll be assigned a OTR trainer and drive the way they teach you, listen to your trainer and ask questions.
Welcome aboard!
