Hey guys, Im 22 and looking for some information about starting a career in truck driving. I ran across Schneider and was wondering do they still offer the training at there schools where they pay for your tuition. Any information will be great.

They don't actually do the schooling but they will provide financial support for you to go to one of their apporved schools in exchange for a signed contract to work for them for I think 18 months or something like that. It's kind of better to see if you can come up with the funds yourself so you are not tied to any company in case something happens. But sometimes you can't and you have to just bite the bullet and sign the contract. They also have tuition reimbursment too, i believe. Hope this helps. By the way Schnieder has a terminal off of I-85 in Charlotte in case you close and want to check them out.

Driver training courses offered through your local community/technical college may qualify for student loans to pay for tuition. Also, check for workforce investment act (WIA) activity/funding in North Carolina. There may be tuition loans/grants available if you qualify. Personal opinion - the more independence you can maintain between yourself and any company the better off you will be. Check the fine print...companies that offer driver training courses may not necessarily offer a job - no job and you may owe them for your tuition.

Thanks for the information. My plan is to go to a local community college that offers a truck driving school and get my CDL, that way im not in debt to any one company when I start out. It seems like however, that only companys like Schneider, Swift, are the only one's that will hire graduates right out of school. Is this true??? As far as low pay, I make less than 10/hr now and dont see that going up anytime soon, so I figure I would prolly equal that if not better that my first year out, and hopefully after a year can start seein more money coming in my getting with a regional company. Any thoughts??

I just finished my CDL training # Trans Tech in Charlotte this past week. The instructors there are pretty good guys with alot of experience. They will work with students until they get it right. It's a 4 week course and they have 1-2 recruiters come in every week.
I have been accepted by Schnieder and begin orrintation in Charlotte next Sat. the 19th. So I'll get a week of class/training and still be able to sleep in my bed for the week.
One of the best bits of info I heard was: Don't beleive everything the recruiters tell you. Do a little homework and decide what you think will work the best for you.
With Schnieder haveing a hub in Charlotte, I can park my rig in their yard and not have to worry about where I will leave that big thing for the few times I do get home. -
I was looking at Trans Tech but I really dont have the money to front the tuition. Keep me updated on your progress with schnieder, and let me know how you like it, cause as I stand now thats the company im leaning towards as my starter company. Thanks

Research for a PDTI school(not sure those initials are in the correct order) and it will open up more companies like Crete and some others, plus normally the tuition is less than the three week wonder schools. Schneider is where I got my start and isn't a bad company. I just wish I would have followed my own advice when starting, but came by the info after the fact.
