I have been asked to take a couple of loads up north across the ice roads but the truck has a tanny I am not familiar with.
It is a single axle straight truck with a 6 or 7 speed and a red button.
Do I work the button like the splitter on an 18 speed. I think the guy said the "rear end is split"
I want to get this right because I am going to need to shift smooth and quickly at times on these winter roads.
Shifter has a red button, not a splitter or H/L range

It sounds like you have a two speed rear diff. Yes you could "shift" like an 18 speed.
end of the road Thanks this. -
Perfect thank you for that.

It did mean to say splitter, but not like the ones on the shifter normally. It is like a plunger switch added onto the shifter.

Copy, most definitely the rear end then

Its a two speed rear end and splits just like an 18 speed. How ever some 2 speeds skip a split in one of the top 2 gears and some dont. Years ago the place i worked had two truck with 5 speeds with a two speed rear. One you used high and low in all gears giving you 10 gears. It shifted just like a super 10. The other you used high and low in 1,2,and 3 then went to 4th low, skiped 4th high and went straight to 5th low. then went to 5th high. You only used 9 gears. The rear ends shift electricaly and shift fast. You dont want to preselect your split like an 18 speed. You want to move the red button up or down right when you plan on shifting. If you miss the rear end split and its grinding (you will till you get use to it) get the trans into neutral fast. Then move the red button back where it was before the grinding started and try again. If you know how to shift a super 10,13 or 18 speed you will get it fast. A 2 speed rear is just a little more " right now" because its electric.
