tore down an 2005 isx good pressure no overheat but lots of noise. removed valve cover and everything looks good removed oil pan and everything looked good until i found a piston wrist pin lock lying on the bottom of pan, the pin got off scratched the liner and pretty much ruined the cylinder pack , i looked at the timing procedure for assembling it and looks straight forward i just need the timing tool to lock the cams , im gonna remove the head later this week because i load tomorrow for houston but i got a guy that has a 2008 isx would the pistons fit the 2005 than you

yeah, sometimes pin locks cracks sometimes.
what kind of block damage? if nothing seriouse, just replace one cylinder liner, piston and chancge all pin locks.

accuratly and carefully install cylinder head. It is heavy and it is easy to damage gasket. especially in 6th cyl. area. I sugest you know how to check cam timing.

    Good luck

haven't taken off the head doI don't know how bad there liner got damaged but probably one cylinder pack will need to be replaced I think that the cause might of been low temperature it got down to negative nineteen that night and the driver was at the hotel for two days prior to that. Soo the next morning when he went to crank it he said that it started to make the noise he traveled less than 1 mile to the truckstop where he stayed and waited for me. The engine is set at 400 and 1500 max rpm governed at 62. The owner found a complete set of internals off a 08 isx. For cheap but that engine is 475 so its probably heavier stuff than what the engine has because the valvetrain on the truck I thin looks weaker than a detroit valves look like they came off a honda but anyway hopefully the owner can find the parts. By the weekend so I can put it back together

ISX valvtraine is reliable enought. It is not Volvo D13 (LOL).

It is of DOHC design, so cyl. head is really heavy. and to remove cyl. head is not for DIYers

    Don,

First make sure the pistons from the 08 ISX are the same type. Cummins has changed pistons from Articulating to Monotherm sometime in the mid 2000's so the ones from the 05 and the 08 might not be the same, and you cannot use both Articulating and Monotherms in the same engine. They all have to be one or the other. The difference between the two pistons is the articulating has a seperate piston skirt and Mono's do not. Also you said the replacements are out of a 08 ISX 475hp, which would be a family 2 engine. What horsepower rating is the '05?

articulating are better. A part of piston is made of steel. Better for heavier work.

    Thanks for your help erveyone
I looked at the parts quote he got from cummins. And it says isx 2 I'm not too sure what the 08 is because maybe it has more emissions gadgets I'm not sure. Cummins doesn't sell cyl packs but sells everything separate pistons are 500 rods 199 liners 268. That's the reason why the owner wants to go for the 2008. The truck is south of the border so I don't thin the mexican amigos have emmisions .the deal sounds too goodt to be true the mexican wants 1200 for all 6 cylinder packs and wants it cash the truck supposedly has 23000 km and in my opinion is probably stolen truck being taken appart for parts but who knows. I have a nice overhead winch that I got at a government auction it says 7500 lbs and I have lifted my cabover's cab with that soo I think the head should be ok for the head.
