Why would you do that?
You can get your per diem benefits at tax time.
This is just another story of a company screwing a driver. -
Although I appreciate your response it doesn't quite answer my question. Seriously though, does anybody work for may trucking company and has had this happen to them? I would like to know if this is the way it is or if I'm just being screwed. On a more positive note, I am getting better hauls lately, lots of miles, probably because it's costing them less to have a per diem driver run it rather than a regular one. Ha.

And I spoke with a tax professional. I am still eligible for benefits at tax season just at a lower amount as most of the per diem is included in weekly pay by an absense of taxation on a percentage of pay. Also, if a heard correctly, I need not keep reciepts, only a record of days out. The lower pay being showed also puts me in a better tax bracket come refund time. This still doesn't answer my question as to why may has lowered my pay 2 1/2 cents though. Hoping somebody is in the same boat or maybe not being docked with their diem so I know if I need to call them gals at payroll and tell them how much they owe me. Any info would be greatly appreciated. God bless out there fellas.
maldaddy Thanks this. -
I heard from another driver that the per diem is a bit less when worked out. Not 100% on that though. Best thing would be to grab your stubs and go to your terminal manager and discuss with them. That's all the advice I know to give on that. I personally did not take the per diem mostly because the company will contribute less to my 401k. It's not much rotfl begin with, but at least its something.

No need to keep receipts if you are doing the simple days out formula.
Psalms18:2 Thanks this. -
Hello Driver, Trucker Steve here I work for May Trucking Company. To respond to your question, No you're not being screwed "You can lower the rifle" LOL. The company incurs a cost for those who willingly sign up to the program, the 2 cents offsets those cost, For further questions or explanations follow up with your dispatcher or Human Resources who would be more then willing to explain the process for you.
As to your getting more miles, well this program has nothing to do with that. Freight volumes always fluctuate. Proactive time management and proper communication on your part play a huge factor in the raise of miles...
Hope this helped driver... Safe travels.Psalms18:2 Thanks this. -
I don't drive for May, but at 2 cpm for the "privilege" of having part of your pay given to you as per diem payments you're getting screwed.
Think about it. If you drive say 125,000 miles per year that's $2500 of non-taxed income that you have to make up through tax savings. Since this isn't a credit, any per diem deduction savings is less than what you're claiming. 1 cpm is a wash maybe. 2cpm is an outright screw job. Without the lube!
You'd be better off if you can opt out of it. -
Excellent. That answers all my questions. I apreciate it drivers. Traveling mercies. See u out there.

I work for May, I opted keep my tax benifit at years end. They have a little thing at the bottom of your weekly statement telling me how much "I missed out on my Per-Diem" year to date. Every time I see it I laugh. My tax benifit per day, is what I "Missed out" on per week. LOL
