I made a run through KY today and stopped on the south side of Lexington at a Loves Truck stop, I think it was a Loves. Anyway I was trying to back into a spot without hitting anything, always a goal of mine. I am about 1 minute into backing my truck up and I have the trailer end next to the steer tires on the two trucks that are already parked there on both sides of the spot I am going for. The driver for the truck on my blind side came out of the store while I was doing this and I didn't see him at all. As I am easing it into the spot I see him open his drivers door when the back of the trailer is no more than 4 feet from him and he gets into his cab while I was trying to back up. I had the truck at a pretty good angle to the trailer. Needless to say I stopped because I didn't want to hit his truck or him. What was he thinking? What would have happened if I didn't see him? I still cannot believe that he did that. I am just glad I saw him before I would have hit him. All I can think of are the stories of drivers getting hit by other trucks in the parking lot and how it happens, right here would be a good example.
Seriously, did he just do that?

The best ones are the ones walking blindly across the lot looking down at their cell while texting and not paying attention to that Pete with the oversized load that is getting ready to back over them.

I think I know which Love's you're referring to. Across the street from a McDonald's?
It's probably just the driver only caring about himself and not thinking about what's going on around him. Today I was right at my door getting ready to step into the truck when another truck started to come around aiming for the empty parking spot next to me. I could have easily just ignored it, opened my door and stepped on inside and thought "to heck with that guy!" but no, I grabbed my things and stood in front of the nose of my tractor so I was out of his way and so he didn't have to worry about hitting me.
That extra time caused my fries to become cold. But that's ok since I wasn't going to eat them anyway.Wargames Thanks this. -
That would be the truck stop, never stopped there until yesterday.

This goes back to everyone helping each other out. Why did he not help guide you into your spot? This would have at least protected his truck as well as keeping you from hitting something on your blind side! It takes 2 min to just stand there and help.

Come on man!!! Pay it forward and help a brother!!!AfterShock, Saddle Tramp, Wargames and 2 others Thank this. -
007driver....I may be a one off here. But I HATE it when people try to "guide" me into a spot. One is because I never need it and the other is because I trust NO ONE when it comes to their judgment. If its to the point to where I can't see then I will assess the situation myself. Because as soon as you hit something....you guide is gonna walk off and have no responsibilty.
Giggles the Original, BNR32, AfterShock and 1 other person Thank this. -
The only time that I appreciate help when backing is when Its a real tight blindside.
Injun Thanks this. -

I don't mind having someone watch the blind side of my trailer, but, of course, I'm not going to rely on them entirely. I will still go look for myself if I think it's close.
I've found the best guide is that O/O with the decked out largecar on my right who gets nervous when he (or she) sees my wagon. He (or she) is going to make d*** sure I don't take any of his (or her) pretty paint away with me. This does not irritate me.
It's the guy with a year and a half of experience who tells me, "turn the wheel this way, now that way, okay, stop...pull forward and give 'er a half turn left...wait..." That's the guy I ignore. I don't need a wannabe trainer who assumes a woman in a Swiftie L/O truck just has to be a student and since she's in there by herself, her mentor must've stepped out of the truck to go to the bathroom or something. Because he knows in his heart-of-hearts that chicks just don't have their own trucks. Chickies like myself are only out here to find a male co-driver. .......but that's a different rant for a different thread.Lilbit, Wargames, AfterShock and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm fair enough to say I can seem to be an arrogant know it all. But I believe that different people are good a different things....one of my weakness is paperwork. Is absolutly hate it, but when it comes to driving I am a natural. When I started driving I didn't step on foot into anyones classroom....I hopped in a truck, grinded a gear or two and about 3 days I was good to go. There was no way I was going to spend 4k or more to go to a school. Btw...went and got a study guide from the dps and the next day I took the test and passed easily.

That's Richmond Love's, exit 95. Them guys don't have much smarts and no patience. They can slip and fall and it's all over. Won't happen to me?? There have been plenty drivers run over and killed just because they were near a backing truck.
Reference the other posters, I don't like someone helping me park either except someone that watches my tail swing and they are standing a safe distance away.
I had an old driver once waving me back, I was going into a tight spot in between two trucks at a dock. He stood there on my drivers side and was just outside the other trucks bumper???
Dude, you're right in my lane of travel. Get out of my way. Stuff like that makes me uncomfortable. There's a right way and a wrong way to offer assistance backing.Injun and AfterShock Thank this.
