I have been with Shaffer for 3months and am glad i made the move. I am a 2yr rookie and from what little i know about the industry , i think they are one of the better companys to work for. Im making 40cpm and getting decent miles. If your thinking about a change give them a call.

Miles, i need to know how many miles you shafferers are getting please.
This is all i care about. It's the bottom line for me; As long as there are no psychotic managers or co-workers, i can sort of deal with all the other crap as long as the mileage is there. -
anyone know of shaffers training procedure? i'm in with the safety department now hoping to get officially employed in the next two weeks. i've read post after post on here and i really want to go to work for shaffer. Anyway,i'm just curious about the 8 week deal and orientation. any insight would be great. hope to be a fellow shaffer employee in the next couple weeks

why not just apply for crete? All I ever see are Crete trucks pulling Shaffer trailers and Shaffer trucks pulling Crete trailers. Seems to me you'd have a better chance of pulling a reefer by applying to Crete.

well i'm off to marietta on monday, can't wait. i haven't been in a truck for 3 weeks so i hope i do ok on the road test. my shifting wasn't very smooth on test day but i was pretty nervous about everything that day.

Crete is a good company to work for but Shaffer will leave you divorced, homeless and penniless in the end. Can't make it on 12 to 1800 miles a week. can't cheat to make a buck thanks to big brother. If you are a family man, please stay away from Shaffer. If you are single with few to no responsibilities then this is the job for you ! Enjoy !1

thanks binghi, i'm acually single with no responsibilities so i should be good. i was actually kind of hoping to stay out 4 to 6 weeks at a time for the most part. i have friends and family all over so thought i'd see about them getting me to different places for my 4 or 5 days off

home for a couple days and thought i'd throw out an update. I'm extremly happy with shaffer to this point. Getting the average 2500 miles a week for the most part. I've had a couple slower weeks but also had some busier weeks. I've had some truck issues but should be getting something newer in 2 months or so. i'm fresh out of school so i'm sure i'll still get an older truck but hnope the next one i get was well taken care of. Speaking of truck issues, i could do without getting into shops but they are good, i would just rather be out on the road somewhere than hanging out in a shop all day , or in one case, 2 days. i dropped my truck at a shop and had someone come get me for my hometime this go round. i live in tn and haven't had an issue getting home yet. I'm required to stay out for 21 days i believe. I have plans in NC in april so i think when i go back out on sunday i'm going to stay out for 2 months. anyway, that's all for now, bottom line , shaffer is doing good by me
Son of a Trucker Thanks this. -
Just wait till the honey moon is over... im almost 5 months in and I haven't seen 2500 a week except for my first week.. our miles are low, our customer base is horrible and communication is very slow and painful. I just wish we would stop hiring so many people like were some kind of cdl mill. No offense to anyone new.. but you'll understand my frustration in a few months.. after you see a Crete/shaffer ad in all the ts books, ts walls and giant bill boards. Hell now we can't even do 62 its 61 with cruise on..

Shaffer was a pretty good company at one time. I worked for them from 2005 to 2009. From the time Crete completely started running things their way, that's when things really started to fall apart. For the first couple of years I saw anywhere from 2,800 to well over 3,200 miles. After Crete took over the books I ran the North/Eastern region even though I was supposed to be National. Then when I tried to get a PM done I was denied because there were certain shops that only serviced Regional drivers, and the only shops in the area where they stuck me to run was those specific shops.
The last year I worked for them I saw a weekly average of not more than 1,800 miles. It was time to go home and start my own gig.
