I just decided to get my CDL last week and was excited and planning on going to San Juan Community College in New Mexico on Feb 28 and wouldn't you know it, I just got my first moving violation since 2000 today. It was in Colorado (where I reside). I made a right turn on a red light that had a sign indicating there were no right turns allowed, one of those signs that light up and are only applicable at certain times of the day. I take the blame for missing it because I wasn't paying attention but I learned later that it is a real money maker for the city as a cop sits there and gets many victims each day. Anyways, it is 4 points on my record. How badly will this hurt and should I fight it? The officer said I could talk to the judge about getting the penalty reduced but if I fight it will this hurt my chances if I lose? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Notify the court that you are pleading not guilty. On the day of the case,go stand in line and talk to the prosecuter,he will let you plead to a lesser charge where no points are involved, the fine might be higher, but you don't want those points.Everybody does this it's called lets make a deal!

ok i understand some companys might hire you with a dui or dwi.. as far as some of the other charges... depends on how you where charged ie hiway traffic act or criminal. you have to check both records. lots of things fall of your mvr, but not your criminal record. some empolyers pull your mvr but not a criminal. some do the mvr first then a criminal they will wait for the 2nd one to come in. the criminal one can be do at the state level or federal level. thats the sticky part. ( some companys do an interpol search) so if you do have any thing get it pardoned oe expunshed. if you have any thing that is questionable DO NOT TAKE A JOB with a company that does do international freight. becuse forgein goverenments do check your back ground. and if if is there they will find it and your employer will know very quickly.

well its gonna bite you under csa rules its a ticket it will show up under csa even warings do...... so do not be surprised if your future employers ask......

Thanks for the replies. I found out that if I plead guilty I can pay the fine and be put on a probationary period of 120 days in which time the charge will be put on hold. So if I don't have another violation in that time the case will be dismissed. Will this still show up under csa rules?Last edited: Feb 16, 2011

I have 4 points (two speeding tickets) in 2010. I also have a Misdemeanor charge from 2007 for B&E of a car. I do not have a CDL.
Swift said "Call us in 2017". Have to wait 7 more yrs cause of the charge.
Who will hire and train me to get a CDL?
Thanks.Last edited: Feb 23, 2011

That's changed now. Just go to their website and navigate a bit. You'll be able to request it online without jumping through the above mentioned hoops. It will take about 15 days to receive it.123456 Thanks this.

I have a question concerning overdue child support. Before anyone prejudges, or starts with the dead beat dad comments, you have not walked in my shoes. When I divorced six years ago I had my own business, and was making alot of money. When the s*** hit the fan afew years ago, construction died where I was and my business started going downhill fast. I went to court to try to get my obligation reduced from $2,200 a month (one child) to something trhat more closly represented my new reality of much less income.Only those that know how the family court system works will be able to relate, but my request was refused. Finally almost 2 years later, after I had fallen behind and eventially had to close the business and declare bankruptcy the judge granted my request, but left me still owing about $15,000 in arrears.
Will this keep me from getting my CDL?
