In the last 60 or so days,,, Ive heard from a dozen of my friends from Boston to Portland Or. and Arkansas to Seattle,
They have quit trucking all together, their trucks are either sold for sale or in the process of being sold or turned into motor home haulers,
The Regs and requirments, the cost of fuel and taxes along with insurance, trying to dig out a living with rates that are stuck in the 80s, they have finally said, thats it.
Some have enough time in to retire and thats what they will be doing, others have jobs, not in the trucking industry and some are just going to collect welfare and food stamps, like the ones that are doing it now and never worked a day in the usa or paid a dime into the program.
Strike,,, there may be NO need for a strike, if the truckers keep falling like flies and the government rushes to put anyone in to fill the empty seats no matter where there from,,as long as the rates stay low.
We have an outright assault on unions from all sides and even OOIDA has said its almost impossible to keep up with the barrage of new bills and laws being passed in congress, thats its mind boggling,
So, Strikes may not be needed if the ones that where willing to strike are all gone to somewhere, selling hot dogs at Fenway Park or holding a cardboard signs at the exit ramps of all the major highways in America
PLEASE HELP ANYTHING YOU CAN SPARE,,,FULL TIME TRUCKER CANT FEED FAMILY,,UNCLE SAM TOOK ALL MY SPARE CASH... I wonder if these signs will be made by union shops??
May be no need for a strike at all

as much as i love trucking ,the enjoyment is all but gone.
old-school, truckerdave1970 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
sounds like a good time to be buying their truck i think---torn between that or buying a couple houses in florida
-
Honestly, I know of several that have hung up their keys, and walked away. One wanted to buy a house, and the banks wouldn't even look at him, even though he was making money, and his truck was paid off.
Now lets think about this for a second. If he can show that he's debt free, owns his own truck, has his accounts, and is turning a profit, why wouldn't the bank even consider loaning him the money for a house? They told him that he had to have a W2 to get the loan. It makes no sense to me. Other than the fact that, as an O/O, one customer going under, if they are your big account, could break you. -
The banks are now just looking for excuses to not make loans. It's ridiculous. What are they going to do when people start going more and more to paying cash for everything?
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
I know one O/O that pays cash for ALL his fuel.
-
We pay cash for everything. No credit cards here. The company a friend of ours runs for pays cash for fuel too. Gives the drivers cash for their runs to cover fuel, etc. I don't know if he buys his trucks and trailers with cash, but he does have a small fleet of very well maintained, very nice trucks.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

Not a big surprise.
I had several credit cards that actually raised my rates to excessive interest charges because I have no work history or w2. My wife has the same cards and gets a preferred rate.
One company cancelled my card because I have no employment history.
Needed a loan rather than taking the money out of savings and they told me they only loan to employees who have W-2.
These are the stupid banks of which TARP saved and they took large bonuses.
I only run on cash or debit now.
I hope banks die.lilillill, bullhaulerswife and cherokee96red Thank this. -
We neither one have had a W2 for some time. Hubby now over 4 year, and for me its been over 12 years. We are both self employed. So I guess, we are screwed too.
But we don't buy much on credit anyways, and we live within our means.
But for someone like my husbands buddy, who had actually been O/O longer than we had, probably 6 years now. He had the tax history to prove that he could make the payments.
One more move by our country to get rid of the small businesses.Lilbit Thanks this.
