Radiator, CAC, AC Condenser gets moved out of the way.
To make the job easier you remove the hood, remove passenger seat and doghouse if necessary (makes job easier on R models).
Pull nozzles, valvetrain, pushrods. Stick special sticks down push road tubes to prevent rockers from falling and making cam very hard to pull out.
Remove front pulleys, front cover, cam out the front. Inspect bearings, replace parts as necessary. The oil pan was off of this one too, forgot why.
It was a pile of work, all the IUP (Injector Unit pumps) have to come off as well, so all the fuel lines too.
If you get the truck cheap enough might not be a bad idea.

Sounds equal to engine swap in cost and time. Cam job might be a little faster, maybe. Definitely would need to work the numbers.
I'm the kinda guy who doesn't go half way. If the pan is off she gets bearings. If the nozzles are out then new ones go in and like that.
Lets hope she had one done already........ I'll let you know.
Thanks -
Just a little FYI : Did some poking around the web, made some calls etc. Guy was right, cam job at Mack can push 6k depending on what they do.
Choice of 7 remans, with full warranty and choice of horses for 9k. so a third more for a new engine.
Makes a hand wonder, is the cam job over priced or the reman being sold cheap? -
thats cheap for the reman, last e7 I priced was around 12K or 15k with 1yr warranty
-
if you do the cam check H rings for dislodging.Once they move up out of the bore say goodbye to the new cam.
