The florescent light in the upper rear wall of my standup sleeper died. It has power to it, so I replaced the bulbs and that wasn't the problem. Called my local Peterbilt dealer and a new one is $203. Is there any fix for this light? I guess I'm a tightwad, $203 seems like a lot of money for what's there, but I really miss the light not working. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The ballast is probably shot.
bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
You say it has power. I'm assuming you mean power coming into the connection for the wires. The ballast may be gone which would show power at the wires but not at the prongs where the tubes go in. Most truck sleeper lights are the same as those in RVs. These lights are available at RV dealers for $45-60.

The ballasts might be replaceable. Not much in my travel trailer is replaceable in parts other than the whole unit. Gotta bleed those white hairs out of their retirement somehow you know.

My lights work but are VERY DIM. I opened everything up to get some info in order to replace ballast, as I assumed that was the issue as I also replaced both bulbs. I was really surprised to not find any ballast but what looks like a circuit board. Is there such a thing as electronic ballast? I couldn't find ballast like you see in more common lights.

Most ballast are electronic today......
Go to Home Depot and look at the choices.....electronic is cheaper to operate.......
More expensive to buy.
The RV stealership tip on replacement lights is very good.
Peterbilt repair/replacement parts are just waay to high for my wallet. -
rv dealers are great. but if you can get to a large boat dealer or find one on the web they will last longer. cost a little more than rv dealer but are built to with stand the beating they get on the water.
